Question for you tuners out there.

The bike is a 2008 FLHRSE4 with no engine mods other than a SE air filter and Supertrapp slip ons. The question:  Is it possible to tune this bike with a SERT to have it rich enough at idle to stop the bike from going into parade mode by shutting down the rear cylinder? If it is, just how do you do it.

I seem to recall reading a few posts that indicate after a tune their bikes ran so cool that they didn't go into parade mode so I'm trying to find out if this is true or did they just turn off that feature with the SERT or other tuner.

No matter how you tune it, if it sits in hot traffic long enough without sufficient air flow and EITMS is activated, it will go into heat management mode.  If you simply want to deactivate the EITMS feature, you can do that yourself without a tuner.

Ed nailed it, but I'd like to remind that running in "one-lung" mode does help cool the bike (and you!).  It would really help to get the bike tuned, b/c right now, with the stock map and the A/C and S/O mufflers, it's running extremely lean.  A good tune will have it running much better, as well as cooler.  BUT after you get it tuned, if you really want it to run cooler in stop-n-go traffic, add a set of cooling fans to the oil cooler (Big Sky Fans or CDA fans).  The oil cooler only works when there's air flow over it, which the fans will do at traffic lights, etc.

BTW:  The procedure to turn off EITMS is in your owner's manual.

Actually that bike has the ability to shift the adaptive fuel +/- 10% from the stock map and an additional 22% fuel trim when running.  I think about 22% is the number for that year.  Regardless, with the slip ons and air cleaner, you're not dangerously lean.  You're probably running toward the + end of the adaptive fuel trim.

Unless you want raw gas dripping out of the exhaust, I don't think you really want to try to run the bike rich enough to keep the EITMS from kicking in.  As DoubleCoppers mentioned, the EITMS is there to improve the comfort level of the rider when sitting at idle, and it also has the affect of keeping the rear cylinder from getting too hot for mechanical reliability.  You won't get the same benefit in terms of rider comfort from the other approaches, like the oil cooler fans or the cylinder head fans, but those methods will help keep the engine temps in a more reasonable range. 

If the bike hasn't been tuned at all, I'd suggest it would be a good idea.  Even a totally stock bike benefits from a good tune, and one with a higher flow intake and exhaust definitely will.  A proper tune however doesn't include running in open loop at very rich settings.  You have a modern EFI and engine management system, and I can't imagine wanting to defeat it and go back in time.
