Lone Star Rally, really good then really bad
« on: November 07, 2014, 05:04:50 PM »

got up this morning and rode down to the strand to get a feel of things but thought the strand was just to much of a madi gra athmospere for me so went on over and road up and down the sea wall for a while where all of the big vendors, bands and other things to see was and had a great time for about 4 hours and thought the wife would be concerned about me being out to long so decided to head back home
got loads of pictures will try and post, guess one at a time but got about 3 blocks from the house and it was like I just thru a achor out? told myself almost home so kept her going, pulled into the drive and the back of the bike
Caught on fire,
flames all the way over the seat!
cut the fuel off, un-zipped the bags and grabbed the fire extinquiser that I keep right inside the garage door!
the rear brake caliper had froze up!
thought the bike was toast and thank god the wife was in the back of the house and didn't hear me screaming FIRE!
which I could post all of the good pictures first

once I got the bike cooled down washed it up and started taking it apart to see out much paint and chrome got melted!
the bag was the only thing that got a little chared on the inside
can't believe it didn't blister the paint?

caliper and rotor seem to be the only thing that got toasted

the real story is
God was with me!

if this had happen just a couple of blocks sooner or even on 45

the bike would of been toast
getting a fire extinquiser to fit inside the bags

You're lucky it wasn't worse.  I'm glad for you that the actual damage wasn't worse.  Did the pistons seize in the caliper causing the pads to drag or what?

Glad you are OK.. Maybe went 3 blocks too far.  Lucky there wasn't any more damage.

Glad the good lord was on your side and you're OK.
The damage to the bike seems minimal - new caliper, rotor, brake lines, fluid... might want to CAREFULLY inspect the tire for any signs of heat damage - or just replace it - that would be better than a failure later on. I would also check the axle and wheel bearings.

yes God was working on my team today

if that had happened down there, or 45 I would of made the Lone Star Rally headlnes and not in a good way

man I got tired of taking pictures of Screaming Eagles by the time I got there on the seawall there must of been 5000 bikes when I pulled out
and they where just streaming in

If any of my vehicle was on fire I let it burn to the ground. Why would I save it??

Hmmm...cuz you don't have insurance on it???

Although being a volunteer firefighter my basic instinct would be first to secure the area then extinguish the fire without asking myself if it is insured our not.

I found 3 fire extinguishers in the garage and all are mounted in strategic places now

the bike should be done in the next day or so,
and damn! it's going to be cold riding home!
Good!
harder to catch fire that way!
