How many CVO miles / kms is too many?
« on: November 07, 2014, 05:27:35 PM »

I've already got 10,000 kms (6200 miles) on my 2014 CVO Deluxe and am worried of doing 'too many'. I see a lot of earlier models with very low mileage being sold on line and less than 10,000 kms.

I can understand if people are selling in a couple of years time, but I intend of keeping it for at least 8 to 10 years. It goes against my grain to have it sitting in the garage, I love the bike and simply going on long rides.

Does anyone else feel the same way?

Cheers

Edit - change to 6200 miles

Depends on why you bought it.
I bought mine to use, not to collect or for an investment. There are better places for my money.
I say ride it like you stole it.

Just ride it all you can.    I think you have long winters where you live.  That will limit you anyway.  I have owned many new Harleys and never made a dime on any of them.

My wife's '14 CVO Deluxe already has 27,000 miles on it.  She plans on riding it another year or so then selling, maybe,,,  She loves the bike so we'll see what happens.  We do buy them to ride them.

I get upset because I'm not riding my bikes ENOUGH.
I have a company provided vehicle for work, including the commute to and from because I'm "on call" 24/7, Therefore I no longer commute to work on the bikes and my riding gets limited to weekends/vacations and those evening during the week when we can get out for a while.
I also don't worry to much about the mileage on the bikes because I bought them so I can enjoy them -- not the next guy if I decide to sell. These are discretionary purchases and NOT investments IMHO

I may be wrong , but I was under the impression a Harley wasn't even broke in until 10k.  My Evo has a crap ton of miles and only problem I had was Base Gaskets once ( My Fault ).
I know the twin cams are different but I think you should be able to ride it as much as you want, If it breaks then you should worry about it. Just like a car or truck, drive it until it doesn't work anymore then get it fixed or a new one . JMHO

At six weeks old my 15 CVO Road Glide Ultra has just over 4,000 miles.  The 12 CVO Road glide I traded had 45,540 miles on it.  It was low because while I owned the 12 I also put 13,000 miles on my 13 CVO Road King.

I buy them to ride, not for something for people to look at in my Garage.

I have wrestled with the same dilemma. I have come down firmly on the 'ride it like you stole it' school of thought. I have had my 2014 RK for under 4 weeks and it has 1800km on it already! It has the odd scuff on the paintwork, the paint looks great, but man is it delicate. I think a Humming Bird touched one of the bags near the bottom with a small feather and left a little imperfection!

I put 25,000km on a Z10R in 18 months in Malaysia before moving to BC and I intend to use the CVO to its full extent. Look after it for sure, but its there to be ridden. You don't have to look far on this forum to confirm that a CVO is not an investment, so 'ride it like you stole it', with a little TLC to keep it looking good.

I just rolled over 50000 km on my 2011 FLTRUSE and would like to keep the mileage down too, but I just love riding it.  So the only solution I can come up with is buy a second CVO will have to see how it works out, would like to get my wife on to a different ride first. I think she would enjoy riding a Street Glide more than her Softail so will see what the future brings.

Boy this is a hard topic for me to understand. Unless you have too much money, and can wait fifty years for it to be worth more than you paid for it, why would you buy a Harley and not use it...why would you buy anything, other than insurance, and not use it??? Harleys are not a good monetary investment...hell they aren't close to a break even investment. But to me they are the best daily enjoyment investment I care to spend my money on. Its like being on vacation, its like getting away from the everyday grind everytime I ride. Well Duh...wouldn't we all like to ride and not have the miles/km show up on the clock but that is not going to happen...so forget about it. The buy it and not ride it talk is very foreign to me.
To me there is no such thing as too many miles on YOUR Harley.
Get your sorry butt on that hot looking CVO and ride it like there is no tomorrow...who knows?

I think that baggers accumulate more miles than others, just because.

Just ride that thing and enjoy, I average 20k+ a year, used to be more.  :orange:

Bought this one as a keeper... which I can say was not the case with my 13 SG I want to keep this one a few years I will ride it as much as I want... but to be honest if I start developing a serious touring lust I might buy another Touring Bike like a Limited to run those miles with

Gonna ride mine into the ground. Then put in a 124 and ride that into the ground.

Just ride man.
