What is needed now??
« on: November 07, 2014, 11:16:28 PM »

I have a 2011 CVO Road Glide Ultra, with TTS tuner, Fullsac headpipe and 2in cores in the stock cans. I have recently replaced the stock paper air cleaner element, with a new K&N filter. I have noticed about a 4 mpg drop in mileage, (I know who cares about mileage) I am not worried about it. But I am worried about it being leaned out too much??? Any help would be appreciated.

       Thanks

Kevin,

A drop in mileage indicates a richer mixture, so this doesn't indicate too lean; instead, it shows too rich.  Also, the stock air cleaner on the SERGU is a high-flow, so changing to a K&N element won't increase air flow much, if any. So here's the money question: Did the MPGs drop as soon as you put on the Fullsac header, cores, and TTS, or was it not until you switched elements to the K&N?

You over oiled the element.

As long as your tune still maintained closed loop operation, you aren't in much danger of being too lean since the closed loop engine management system will make small corrections automatically.  And lower mileage isn't a sign of running lean.  Your change in mileage is probably unrelated to your change of air cleaner element, and could be as simple as a difference in the gasoline formulation you're running (more ethanol equals less mpg for instance) or the change in weather.

I.M.O !  the motor has to work harder to suck air through an oil soaked K&N , compared to the stock hi-flow filter, hence lower MPG ,  you should always remap  after changing anything intake/exhaust.  :nixweiss:

Got a question for you. You say you went with bigger head pipes and used the same stock muffler body with a bigger baffle? Did I understand that right? I have a 12 cvo rg custom and thought of putting my supertrapp stepped headpipes onto my stock mucflers but there is a size difference , I think 2-1/8 vs 2". Is there anything that can be done with stock mufflers as I for once like the absence of noise when just cruising
