Modifying slip on mufflers.
« on: November 08, 2014, 09:47:18 AM »

I have a pair of oem slip ons that came with my '06 CVO ultra. These have the cats installed in them. I'm looking to gut them and install FullSac cores.

How hard is that to do myself? Is there a link or DIY thread for this? Do I need to cut the other cores out with a torch and then weld in the FullSac cores?

Thanks!

Not sure if the cats make any difference but I did mine in a couple of hours. Just grind the welds down and pull the old baffles out and install the new ones with a small bolt that you drill for in the bottom of the muffler where you can't see it. One thing I would recommend is to buy the screens that hold the packing to the outside of the muffler body and just use one wrap of material. It gives more volume to the muffler and sounds great. Try this video.

I shipped mine (from my 07 which also has cat in muffler) to Steve for install of Fulsac baffle. Don't recall the cost to install but it wasn't much.

The stock core comes out fast with the right tools. If you have cat mufflers don't worry, they will come out with the core too.

I did mine with a Dremel, and while it took longer, the results were the same.  If your mufflers are from an '06, the baffles will probably be bonded to the muffler body with rust.  I had to bang on mine pretty hard to break them loose (I used the method Steve used in the video).

Did you go back in and put the screens in and remove 1/2 the packing?  I just got a set of 2012 stock cvo mufflers that I plan to core out over the weekend. I plan to get the 2" fullsac cores.  Just hadn't decided if I wanted the screens or not too.  Can't really find much for vids on youtube or anywhere where people have done a sound and performance comparison with or without the screens.

If your end caps are bolt on, it's relatively simple.  This thread was for an '09 but the procedure is the same :  Installing Fullsac Baffles on 09 CVO Road Glide.  Worked for me.
