2015 DETACH TOUR PACK FIT ON A 2012 CVO R/G CUSTOM
« on: November 11, 2014, 12:15:58 PM »

Has anyone ever installed a 2015 style chopped tour pack for the 14/15 models on the 4 point dock with a solo detachable rack on a 2012 CVO Road glide?

This is exactly what I want to do on a 2012 CVO Street Glide.  Did you do this and did you have any complications?  I checked with HD dealer and it will mount on the 4 point docking station, now checking to see if they will do the 2012 CVO color scheme on the 2015 trunk.

Never did. After deciding on not dumping $2k into one I bought an expandable luggage rack. Then I ran across an ad on a forum advertising a 2012 chopped TP painted my cvo colors complete with locks, liner and solo and 2up detachable racks for $900 shipped. So now I will be selling the ex luggage rack.

Yeah, we went today and the dealer is waiting for the call back from the HD paint shop, the Service manager told me they are real funny about painting a newer year trunk with a 2012 cvo color but he said he would find out. they are pricey they want $2750 for the paint and lights and bracket and top rack, that's labor included and quick disconnect wiring, at this point we are thinking twice also but may go for it. what is a expandable luggage rack? thanks donvito.

Screw the dealer. Call Joe at extreme dimension in New Jersey I think. He said he sells tour packs at a discount either HD or aftermarket which iseven cheaper. He charges $750 for any color CVO paint and will invert the design too. I figured about $1500 for one painted without shipping and the mounts etc. I have seen pics of his work. It is truy a work of art.

I just got my 2014/15 tour pak back from Joe at Extreme painting. He did a great job!!! All of the colors are spot on and I was super pleased with his work. My local Harley dealer gave 20% off all of my parts that I ordered over the winter. I didn't know Joe could get them at the time. Anyway,I mounted it up to the 2014/15 detachable rack that has the slots in it to allow adjustment front to back. I found if you push the tour pak front all of the way, it's a perfect fit for my 2013 road glide. I had to tweak the rack a little to get it to go on and off easily. I think that's somewhat normal for all of the detachable goodies so I would recommend dry fitting the rack prior to mounting the tour pack. The only small issue I have with this setup is you need to be very careful opening and closing your saddlebags. The newer style tour paks are wider so the saddle bag lids on 2013 and older bikes that hinge differently can contact the bottom of the tour pak if your not careful. Overall,I am super pleased with how everything looks and works. I would recommend this to anyone considering it. I'll post some pictures soon.

Here's a pic of the slight clearance issue with the saddlebag lids. Not really an issue if your careful. I'm not sure why my pictures are loading sideways? If you click on the view image it will be normal?

Here's a side shot. I'm still deciding on what backrest to put on it. I had the small rest on but the wife wants the wrap around backrest. I'm not sure how that's going to look on a chopped pack plus requires drilling holes in the lid. If I go that route there's no turning back.

I am talking with Joe about a newer model TP for my 2009 so it's good to hear about the clearance issue before we finalize everything. I was going with a full king version because the wife also likes the wrap around backrest. Might have to stay old school with my choice as I'd hate to have the saddle bag lid accidentally hit that sweet paint work.

Looks good though!  :2vrolijk_21:

Dis b 1, Bob.  I went this route with a huge piece of Harley Luggage (two pieces actually) and works great.  Of course I have the Brukus locks on all my detachables, too... :2vrolijk_21:

And with one of the two bags I utilize (it expands also).  Not quite as nice as the option of the new 2015 tourpac on a 2012 SESG (and Joe at Xtreme would do a bang up job on that one...) but not as expensive either.  I've got $450 or so in the rack and bags.  Rack was new, bags were from a member here that never used them.

Hey 1badbagger, I agree the large backrest would mess up the looks of the chopped tourpak, looks sweet, but another option is have the wife sew the large backrest to back of her jacket. Just kidding and yes I am single. http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/Smileys/CVO/nixweiss.gif
