2013 CVO Road King - Speakers In Rain?
« on: November 11, 2014, 08:01:01 PM »

Need some help here.....
I just picked up a 2013 CVO RK. Of course getting caught in the rain is inevitable. So is washing it. Can someone confirm that water is okay, especially with the speakers on the lids?
Are there covers that can be bought, similar to the rain sock that goes over the air cleaner?
Sorry if it's a stupid question, but just making sure.
Thanks,
Joe

Mine got wet 2 times,  once by rain the second by me washing it after the rain. No issues with them being wet. I believe they're marine grade speakers.

That makes sense. They would have to be marine grade. What made me think about this is the fact that the speakers on the rear bags are horizontal, so the rain goes directly down on them. There seems to be no place for the water to go once it gets in there. I did notice however, that the grill holes are very, very small. That's probably to prevent a lot of water from getting in.

Some put blue painters tape over the grills when washing but I just open up the lids and dump the water out of the speakers when finished. So far two years and they still work fine and no leaks.

Same speaker set-up as my '12 SESG and after 2 1/2 years, MANY miles of rain, lots of washings and almost 29K miles, no leaks or degradation of sound from the bag (or other) speakers.  It would be nice for the bag speakers to be a bit louder but I still like 'em.

My 13 has been ridden many miles in the rain, and down pours.  8 hours straight one time in the rain.  They are just fine, and everything in my saddle bags was dry. :coolblue:

Yeah mate....Don't be worried about no rain. Just when washing be mindful not to use full pressure straight at them. Othe then that...Mine 2 years old...Hundreds of washs and wet rides. Stil pump out good tunes and no sign of leaking..
