I am looking at an 2012 FKHXSE3 and was told the factor IPOD is the only IPOD that works with the handle bar controls.  If that is the case there has to be a way to reprogram them.  Can someone confirm that the dealer can reprogram the HU for a new IPOD?

Any iPod with a 30 pin docking connector will work.
Classics are an issue because the hard drive cant handle the vibration.
Not sure about the lightning connector.

my wife uses the 30 pin to lightning connector on her iphone and it works just fine with her ipod controller.  she likes to stream pandora while on the bike.  works just fine with the handlebar controls.

Other than hard drive iPods all iPods will work, I use a new 32 Gig touch with the lightning connector, just get the 30 pin to lightning adaptor.  The iPhone will also work, as I use my 64gig iPhone 6 now.
