Disappointed in Dyno Results
« on: November 23, 2014, 07:54:27 PM »

I finally got around to install the exhaust on the '15 CVORGU, so I had my dealer put in a SERT and Dyno it; results 92hp / 108tq. The exhaust I have is CFRs with S&S Power True Duals. I've ran CFRs on my last 3-4 bikes, but this is my 1st experience with S&S; normally I run V&H Dresser Duals. Anyway, I'm seeing '15 103s w/Stage 1 get this kind of numbers.  I know I loose HP/Tq with CFRs, but I was expecting better numbers; even the HD folks that tuned it was not impressed with the S&S headers. Additionally, I'm not crazy about the sound of this combo as I think the H-crossover muffles the sound and is not as loud as with V&H dresser duals.Guess I'll just order some dresser duals, get it dyno'd again, and put these S&S up for sale.

It rides good (way better than stock), but I think it needs some more tweaking to really ride excellent. I have some decel popping around the 2K mark that needs to be worked on.  My problem is I'm so use to my 103" with a Stage III kit, the 110" with the 255 cams feels sluggish.  I'm now looking to see what will wake it up more ... like higher compression pistons, T-man 600 cams, etc.

Check out the dyno chart at the top of this thread http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=98270.0 I am considering going this route for sure. Right now I am running V&H powerduals with hi output slip ons and the dyno chart is at 97 HP and 118 tourque

I wouldn't be disappointed if my numbers were 97 / 118.

BTW: Here were the numbers from my last CVO (2010 Ultra running CFRs, V&H dresser duals, and ventilator intake:

95.9 HP and 122.2 Torque.

This is what I was expecting to be around.

I'd throw in a GMR cam or a Andrews 57 and get it tuned. Should be a world of difference then !!!

You might consider the sprocket change.  I have been thinking about that.  But I don't worried about the numbers at all I ride the bike at part throttle most of the time and only pass once and a while and it passes people just fine.  I run fullsac header with 2.25 with tts and some other little things that make no other noticeable hp increase.  But if you want more number you need more money and there are several guys on here that can get you the numbers with the fuel mileage and reliability.  Do some searches on other builds there and different numbers you may want to get to depending on your budget.  Good luck.

B,

Were your 2 bikes tuned by the same person, with the same fuel manager, in the same gear, with the same cam, on the same dyno, with the same settings (SAE vs STD, etc.), same environmental conditions, within a few days of each other?

Two reasons I ask: 122 TQ from a Stage 1 (your 2010) is a lot.  That's more like a Stage 2, even though we've seen or heard of such before.  Second, the current numbers from the '15 are typical Stage 1, so no reason for disappointment.

You've mentioned the 2015 feels sluggish compared to the Stage 3 (2013), but that's apples to oranges.  The real question: how does the '15 stack up against the '10?

Yesterday I had it re-tuned to address the decel popping, and that seems to have helped out some.  The numbers didn't change, but it feels much better. Also, I guess it was apples to oranges comparing it to the 2010 as new tuner and brand new dyno was used. To get the '15 feeling like my Stage 3, I'm contacting Steve for his 577 cam and have it put in. Also, I think I'll replace the SE259 with his 577 in my Stage III.
