Koyo inner cam bearings
« on: November 25, 2014, 12:01:15 PM »

A little info for those that might care... Every time I've been in the cam chest of a twin cam, I've always installed Torrington bearings - just the accepted practice.  I'm replacing cams in my current 103, and when I opened the install kit that came with the new S&S 570's EZ start cams, the name KOYO was stamped on the bearings. I was going to order a couple of Torrington thinking that the KOYO's were Chinese junk, but out of curiosity, I googled KOYO and found that Torrington is now owned by KOYO! Same American product out of the same plant. So Torrington is now KOYO.

Koyo bought Torrington quite some time ago. As Don stated, the INA is a good bearing as well so long as it's the full complement bearing. S&S uses both best I can tell. I've seen Koyo's in their cam install kits and INA's in their crate motors. Either is fine as long as they're full complement.

These days the bearings from Japan are the good stuff, compared to the Chinese junk.
