Wintertime Blues - Last Good Ride?
« on: December 02, 2014, 07:38:29 PM »

Live here on Long Island in NY and like most of my riding colleagues in the Northeast and Midwest, the riding days are numbered.
It's getting cold, and it's only a matter of time until we get pounded with snow. Then the roads get pounded with salt and that's when the baby goes under the cover in the garage for the winter.
Sunday we got some "warm" weather - about 55 degrees so out I went for a couple of hours. It's probably one of the last good ones I'll get in.
I'm dreading the long, cold winter - and not being able to ride.
You guys who can ride year round are very fortunate.

Hey - I don't blame you. Ride it if you can. The only thing for me is that the stuff they put on the roads is toxic. Worst thing for chrome, etc. It literally eats away at stuff if you don't clean it off. Do you wash the bike after you use it during the winter?

We have had salt on the roads for a month already, and when the salt comes out the bike goes away. I hate spending the money for a bike and only riding 8 months a year but that's just the way it is here. Maybe it just makes it better when we can get them back out for that first ride every spring, or at least that's what I keep telling myself!!!    Ride safe!!

Yup - not good. My policy is that once the roads get pounded with salt the toys stay in the garage. A couple of years ago I took the bike out because the roads seemed pretty good and the thing was covered with white salt residue when I got home.  >:( It took me longer to clean it than the time I spent riding.
That first ride in Spring - "ahhh", there ain't much better.  ;D

Bikes are hard enough to keep clean without adding salt to the equation. So far they have only had one "snow" here in Nebraska so it's still good. Been colder than a mother in laws heart a while back but nice afternoons recently. I'm with the other guys, I didn't spend $40,000.00 to trash the bike with road salt or chemical mix.
