2015 SG CVO Exhaust
« on: December 11, 2014, 02:25:16 PM »

As some of you know, I took delivery of my 2015 (HC) SG CVO last weekend.  I am hoping to get some break-in miles this weekend (50 degrees)!!  I am looking forward to getting these stock miles in before the bike has it's mods.

The exhaust related mods I ordered are Rinehart exhaust, SE Extreme Billet Air Cleaner Kit and SE Street Performance Tuner.  The bike will be dyno'd.

However, part of me wonders if I shouldn't modify the existing stock SE exhaust baffles to gain HP/TQ/Sound and try to maintain the 'look' of the CVO.  I assume that this type of modification wouldn't gain the same performance results or sound??

Thoughts?

You really don't want that SE Street Performance Tuner.  It isn't what you might think it is.  If you intend to have the bike tuned by a real pro on a dyno, I'd suggest you find the truly qualified full time professional tuner first, then let him help you decide on the appropriate device.  Don't assume your Harley dealership has a real full time professional tuner on staff; most do not.

I thought that the CVO models all came with a high flow air cleaner/filter, so I do not think you need to change the air cleaner/filter.

Fullsac sells replacement baffles for the stock mufflers, four different sizes for different levels of sound and performance.

Like Jerry said, ask the dyno operator/tuner what he uses and recommends.

Exactly right; many of them are just barely capable of loading a canned map made by HD.

Nothing wrong with the SE tuning software. Being it's a brand new bike, the SE tuner may be required to maintain the warranty with selling dealer. While agree some dealers don't have well trained techs, there are very good independent tuners that use SE. You may have to travel some to find a dealer or indy to tune, but it will be worth it.

If you stick with a Harley product, go for the race tuner (i.e.,Pro Super Tuner) not the street tuner.  See descriptions below:

Street Performance Tuner: The Screamin’ Eagle® Street Performance Tuner is a smart choice for motorcycle owners because it allows them to get the most street-legal performance out of Stage I and II kits. It is compliant with both Environmental Protection Agency and California Air Resources Board emissions and noise regulations for on-road Harley-Davidson® motorcycles.

Pro Super Tuner: For customers going to the track, the Screamin’ Eagle® Pro Super Tuner allows more tuning freedom for vehicles fitted with Screamin’ Eagle® race-use components. A base calibration (developed by H-D® Screamin’ Eagle® Engineering) is chosen, then the motorcycle is run and analyzed to match the air/fuel ratio, spark advance and other inputs closely to the engine’s air flow characteristics to optimize efficiency and performance.

From what I gather on the HD site:

Screamin’ Eagle® Street Performance Tuner:  This is fine if you only use HD parts.  If you choose to use non HD parts you are SOL.  I am sure they don't make calibrations for non HD parts.  You keep your warranty.

Screamin’ Eagle® Pro Super Tuner:  Allows you full control of the ECM.  It voids your warranty because you are using a non-street legal enhancement.  This is the get-out-of-jail free card for HD for warranty purposes.

There are two different products, as detailed by Mark and Charles.  When I said he really didn't want the Screamin' Eagle Street Performance Tuner (SESPT), I wasn't bashing the much more capable Screamin' Eagle Pro Super Tuner (SEPST).  The first only allows you to download the street legal canned maps from Harley that they used to sell as dealer installed downloads back in the day, and no settings anywhere in the rpm and load ranges covered by EPA regulations can be altered.  In other words, a lot of money for not much capability at all.

And now, for those who bought a SEPST, Techno-research Direct-Link tuning is able to work through it, and build a custom map.  8)

I am located in Des Moines, Iowa...any pro tuner recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

First of all, thanks for all the replies and info.

I have found a tuner, Harley Alcox (Ames, IA - 27 yrs exp.) that will be doing my tuning and he will be using the SE Pro Super Tuner (not the Street version).  I have received several positive referrals for him and feel much more confident.  He will be doing a complete, custom map.

The bike was scheduled for the mod this weekend, but I have family coming into town that would like to see the bike.  So, I will put off the mod for another week which will only postpone my 30 degree rides.  ;-)

On a slightly different topic, last night I received my J&S Jack and it works like a champ.  Very solid build and smooth operation.

I will update this post with the performance results, once the mod/tune is completed.  Thanks again and happy holidays.
