Intermittent sound output
« on: December 11, 2014, 05:51:33 PM »

On my 07 ultra classic I have the hawg wired amp and faring speakers with the factory H/K head unit. So this week while riding along I just lost all sound. Hit the next exit checked the CB/off , intercom / off no sound from ; cd,am,fm,wb etc. power unit down restart and bammo I got sound again.  Then it started doing it more often. Read on here that I should turn off my AVC and Bass n Treble gains to below half.  Tried that no change! So here's the weird thing the speaker switch in the faring cap you know the one headphones/speakers/speakers-intercom. When the sound goes out sometimes I can reach down and toggle between the middle pos and the bottom ( light on pos) and the sound will come right back on? WTH? Then if it goes out toggle it again and it comes back but not always?
Anyone have any ideas?

Yes. try cleaning the contacts of both the fuse and the socket.

But..sorry to say you may need the services of IRON CROSS - the HK radios are known to have a weak spot on the circuit board inside the head unit that may crack over time resulting in the symptoms your describing. Good news is they can repair and modify the head unit so it won't happen again.

Why would you want to change it from something you've got 8 years of good service out of w/no problems to something that has been nothing but problems for the 2 years they have been out? :D :D

So true.

Camo,

My '08 had same symptoms as yours, including (at first) working when switching the speaker switch.  Eventually, though, sound went out completely and had to repair head unit.
