If everyone actually had their charger located on the left side of the bike, the stock location might be fine. However, for those who like to keep their charger mounted to a wall for instance, and park the bike so the right side is facing that wall, the factory location sucks. If it were mine, I'd do the same thing I did with my older model. Run the harness out the hole in the plate between the engine and battery compartment, attach the connector to the plate with 3M molding tape, and never have to fish out the wire and connector. I park on the right side of the garage next to the charger on the wall, take the charger connector over to the bike and plug it in. For those who do connect from the left side, just aim the bike connector to the left instead of the right. For those who want to be able to move the connector on the bike, use heavy duty Velcro instead of the molding tape.
This is just an example of one way to do this. There are many others, limited only by your imagination. As noted by LV76, you can add more wire to extend that connection as far as you want. Maybe you want it at the back of the bike under the T-P. No problem, just route the wires properly so they don't get snagged by moving parts.
