I wonder if the dealer gets dinged somehow if they have too many warranty claims.

A friend of mine had his lifters and cam changed under what he thought was his good ESP warranty, since the cam was worn [tops of a few lobes pitted] they charged him for it was worn and not broke WTF. Anyone know if this is correct with ESP? Thanks John....

From my experience with auto extended service contracts, they pay for covered parts that fail, they do not cover "normal" wear.

Example: If your top end gets a little noisey due to normal wear, but is still dependable, that may not be covered. If a part fails or completely wears out, it would be covered. They do not garrantee to keep your bike "like new". They keep your covered components serviceable. A big difference.

The owner of my local dealership told me that the service contract providers have become tougher about claims. If a dealer has a high claim rate they do watch closer.

I was in Slidell, Louisiana today on a Patriot Guard Mission so I went by the Harley Shop there and showed them how the chrome was peeling on the ends of the grips and also told them What Hammond Harley had done and said. They ordered new end caps for the grips which is where they are peeling and are replacing them under the 2 year warranty.

I already have the aftermarket grips coming but at least I will have a used set without peeling chrome that I can either keep for a backup or get a few dollars for on EBay.

Slidell Harley is about 60 miles from me and Hammond is only 18 miles but I will be giving my business to Slidell, Heck, I like to ride anyway.

It's worth riding a reasonable distance to get good service.  At my old residence, there were 3 closer dealers, but I'd ride 150 miles round trip to get better service/etc.

I live 3 miles from my nearest dealer. But for service or purchase of a new bike I'll ride the 31 miles to the dealer that will do whatever it takes to make their customers happy.

That answer is yes.   "dinged" refers to the dealer not coming out "whole".   The dealer doesn't care about how many parts Harley pays for, only the one's he pay's for.

Dealer's with above average claims get audited many ways.  patterns? look at old parts? once the dealer gets the Hairy eyeball that is hard to shake.

SMHD in Maryville seems to do a lot of warranty work. I have never really had an issue with HD and warranty for, thank goodness. They sell so many bikes though that I am not sure they could get into a bad light with mother HD.

My experience with dealers and the mother ship have left me with the impression that they do not warranty anything! We build a 100% perfect bike so therefor no warranty is needed or required.

Never buying another new Harley again. The quality and workmanship liken back to the 80's when they were part of AMF. Shoddy workmanship, poor designs and they do not stand behind their product.

I have had my fill.
