Headset search
« on: December 27, 2014, 01:40:48 PM »

Picked up a 2008 CVO Ultra a couple of weeks ago.  I'm looking for good headsets, so I can ignore...I mean listen to my wife while we ride.

suggestions?  experience?

Thanks!

Are they the stock headsets from HD, or the ones with the plastic head/neck strap?  I've heard bad things about the plastic ones.  I have zero experience with headsets, so I don't know what I don't know.

Thanks,
Dan

I have both .. the Plastic ones are not that bad but would be hard to use with a full face or 3/4 helmet.   the ones that come with the bikes the mic attaches to the bottom side of your helmet and the ear pieces go into ear cut outs on the inside of the helmet.  The plastic ones that go around your neck i like them but mine hurts my ears after awhile. Just uncomfortable with the straps of the half helmet pressing on them after a long time.  jmo

im not sure what else you can use but those two.  You have to be able to plug them into the bike.

Great info, thanks!  I have a convertible helmet, so based on your info I would need the ones that come with the bike and attach to the helmet.  How do they attach, a clamp of some kind or glue?

Thanks,
Dan

Nice pics, thank you!  The clamp makes sense, and won't interfere with the integrity of the bucket.

Are you looking to just use the helmet to helmet set up or do you want full function of the CB also?

Not sure what kind of helmets you have but the wife and I got new Nolan 104 helmets last year along with their HD interface. It uses the Nolan comm set which mounts in the helmet and a cord that goes from the helmet to the bike. Works pretty good and nothing hanging off the side of the helmet.

Yes I have also been using the Nolan set up and find it very good. Lot cleaner looks. Over the years have used the Genuine article but have tried the Nolan set up this time as we like the Nolan Helmets.

I bought the HJC made HD helmet, the FXRG.  I like it.  Not the best helmet I've had, but I like that the chin flips all the way to the back.  my wife hasn't picked out a helmet yet.  Plenty of time for her to look around.  She won't ride until the weather/temps improve.

The FXRG that the chin flips all the way to the back and can be worn as a 3/4 is not made by HJC.  It is a Shark Evoline 3.  http://www.shark-helmets.com/product.php?code_sous_gamme=EV3

I own the Shark brand as it was more than 100 less.  I'm pretty happy with it.
