How do you guys do it? .....full baggers that is!
« on: December 31, 2014, 05:39:39 PM »

I stopped by the dealer where I bought my bike and they had the CVO Limited.  I figured what the heck, throw a leg over.

......I'm 5',9" about 195lbs. and I work out.

How do you guys ride these things?  It felt sooooooo heavy!  I feel really comfortable on a Street Glide, but I felt like I was gonna drop this thing!  I'm sure I'd get used to it, but I didnt think it would be that much heavier.....top heavier!

thats probably what you said the first time you rode a bicycle. you would probably not even pay attention after the first 50 ft. after the bsr gets used to it, they will not ride anything else.

Your SG is also an inch lower. That Ultra only weighs about another 70lbs or so over yours. Grow some longer legs  :huepfenlol2:

It is great once you get going, but those stops were hell when I got my first Ultra. I looked like a rookie at every light, but now it is second nature.

:soapbox:   Come on guys!   :o   :o    Don't let the secret out.      After all we all know that only real bikers can ride full baggers.   :coolblue:   :coolblue:

Seriously, it only feels heavy when you're parked.  As soon as you hit the road (figuratively, not literally), it feels great!    :huepfenlol2:   :huepfenlol2:

I came from a Kawa Z10r which weighs nothing compared to my RK. One of the big surprises for me was the first ride round the car park. As others have said, you get the wheels turning and the weight just evaporates. Following a little scare, one thing I am far more careful of now is looking at where my feet will come to rest. A sheen of water on top of an oil slick is not a good place to brace a RK!

The damn thing "felt heavy" cause it is very heavy.  Not for sure about the weight of the Limited you reference,  but the CVO Ultra like I had was in excess of 850 pounds without me on it.  Is it manageable,  yes it is,  is it a handful,  yes it is.  I rode mine two up with extra baggage to the Sturgis Rally and hundreds of miles in stormy weather.  Had great fun,  but the excess weight (high up.....center of gravity wise) is NOT FUN.

I got rid of mine and bought a 2014 Street Glide Special,  same frame,  but no lowers and no tour pack and it feels much lighter than it in reality is from the Ultra.  I'm much happier with the lighter ride.

By the way,  I still stand by the fact that those "pigs" ought to come with "reverse gear" as STANDARD EQUIPMENT. :-\

For me it's like Dave said "second nature."
I have owned a bagger since 1988. When the choice is hold it up or drop it, the choice is easy.

Riding a Harley is not like computer science. You practice, practice and practice.
And sometimes practice is not enough and you drop it.
But that usually don't happen often.

After you drop it 5 to  8 times you learn how to keep it up, or not. I will say if the choice is let her drop, or rupture something trying to hold her up, let her drop. It's not worth the pain and possible doctor visits.
The ride is worth all the extra weight!

My last two bikes were CVO Road Glides, same height and weight as a Street Glide.  Went to the 15 CVO Road Glide ultra.  About 120 pounds heavier.  Really only notice the extra weight lifting it off the side stand.

I can ride the figure 8 in the box on it, does not take much more effort than my 13 CVO King.  I can do a 22 foot circle on the Ultra, and can do a 20 circle on the King.  Soon I will be able to do it tighter on the Ultra, just need more practice on it.

Still heavier lifting off the stand becuase it is heavier and an inch higher.
