I have all the incentive to not dop my SERGU, as I removed the bag guards the week I got the bike.  I have never had bag guards on any off my bikes.

Take a class like Ride Like A Pro and you will not fear dropping your bike.  I took it on my CVO King, with a Built Motor and 14" Monkey bars.

I practice on it, and my CVO RG Ultra.

My wife and I practice going as slow as possible going up to a red light.  Its a compatition between us that helps us get much better at slow speeds.  She Rides a 15 Road Glide Special, her last two were street glides.  She does not worry about dropping it in a parking lot.

The bike is heavy but as everyone said when rolling she is a dream to ride.  I ride to work everyday and have to park in a parking deck 4 floors up. Lots of good practice going around and then cutting across spots to park straight in order to avoid backing up. I do wish she had a reverse. The biggest pain in parking is looking for the right place to get her stopped and still get back out. I have miss judged a few times!!!   When my wife and I ride all loaded up we add a good 500 lbs.  Generally speaking we don't have any issues. I am 5' 11" and 215 lbs. and I don't have any trouble reaching the ground. I think several people already stated when you first get on a big bike it does seem very cumbersome and awkward.  I have dropped a few bikes but luckily not the Ultras or CVO limited.  I don't know if I could get her up. Just lifting her off of the side stand with a small slope can be a challenge! But when you are the road there is nothing better. She just goes!  Love her!

I've had two Ultra's ('95 and '97), an '89 EG with Tourpac and lowers and my dad's '72 EG (talk about heavy....) and was around 160-170 lbs and 5'6" for all of them.  I guess the '72 got me prepared for the others.  They are all heavy bikes (even the current ride is still around 800 lbs) and I NEVER had any issues riding single, two up/loaded and on two of them, pulling a trailer.  I've only dropped one of them (the '89) and that was a stupid non-preparation approach to a ditch at Roads of Atlanta infield.  Have you ever dropped a big bike in front of 1,000 of your closest friends....I don't recommend it....but that taught me a valuable lesson as I don't do that anymore and I haven't dropped one since.
It's perspective.  Yes it's heavy but it does handle the weight well and they were all very good rides (wish I still had the '89).

This year I went full geezer glide with the CVO Lim. I actually was surprised at well it handled and while under way did not feel amy fatter than my old FLHRC. I do feel the weight when lifting off the side stand and if parked on a down hill way over to the left I need the 6'2" 200lbs. to get her fat azz back up. I like the tour pack most of all because it is just so handy for quick access to things in there. The lowers hold more heat than I like in the summer.

So how do we do it???? We just realize that a fat ole girl can be a nice ride but you have to respect her size. ;) She could fall over on you and crush the chit outta you.

After you drop it 5 to  8 times you learn how to keep it up, or not. I will say if the choice is let her drop, or rupture something trying to hold her up, let her drop. It's not worth the pain and possible doctor visits.
The ride is worth all the extra weight!

I hate to admit it but I find the limited is easier to handle than the breakout.  :nixweiss: It is obviously heavier with the higher COG but overall it feels lighter and more maneuverable than my BO with better ground clearance. I am 6'1" and 190-250 lbs (pre and post holidays). The second thing I hate to admit is that I find I ride the bagger more frequently than the BO. Kinda like driving the minivan more than the sports car, I guess. ;D

You're right, all the extra weight is up high.  That's one of the reasons I traded my 2011 RGU for my 2013 CVO-RG.  Having said that, having long legs makes a big difference.  I'm 6'2" and weigh 185lbs, and I had no issues managing the weight.  The bike was a wonderful for road trips and not nearly as great around town or day trips - which is the other 50 weeks of the year...

My third Road Glide (98,07) now the 2015 CVO RGU.Never really had an issue with the weight and as my wife is always on the back during our long rides bopping around town feels absolutely light.Have bucked those high winds you guys have in Montana and Kansas and rode across the great divide in Colorado was very happy to have a bigger bike.Talked to a guy and his girlfriend in Wisconsin he said they were beat up just trying to hold the road on their sportbikes in the cold and wind and I was eatiing an apple on cruise listening to Bob  Seeger lol

Just wait until you take a trip.....load the saddle bags and tour pak with your wife's stuff which leaves a duffle bag for you that you tie on the luggage rack which is on top of the tour pak  :'(.....now you're talking about an entirely different riding experience ( Or Challenge).

Slow maneuver can be interesting....and a lot of thinking of where to park :-\

My first bagger, 1989....a friend taught me.  You tell them they can "bring what ever they want.......as long as it fits in that saddle bag right there....one for you, one for me and one for the little cooler inside the tourpack".  LOL  It's amazing how quick they learn to bring only what they "really" need.

Having said that......I just got a Bushtec trailer.  But it'll probably stay home more than it goes.  My previous experience with the Bushtec is that your friends don't consider that you're already dragging around much more weight than they are and now they want you to haul all their crap, too.....so that they can ride empty.  :nervous:
