Anyone heard of a low speed whine/howl only in 1st gear? Rode a rental that did that among other noises, figured it was beat on since it was a rental. Test rode and 14 sounded fine. Bought a 15 and I hear it.

1st is a straight cut gear for strength.  The whine is normal.  In '08 5th gear had the same whine, and in '09 they changed to a helical gear and eliminated the whine.

I know the whine your talking about my 08 has it in 5th also, it sounds different in the 15 though.

Whine in 1st gear is normal....switching to Redline Shockproof in the trans helps a bit.

Same with mine. After about 800 miles I don't hear it anymore.

My '09 SERG is also straight cut in 5th, but not tooooooo noisy though.  You can sure tell though when you're in 5th gear and not 4th or 6th.

I think '10 or '11 when they changed it to helical like 2,3,4,6.
