2008 FLHTCUISE3 Piston Rings
« on: January 09, 2015, 10:31:11 PM »

Hi all,
Took my bike into an independent motorcycle shop because rear cylinder sounded like it was coming apart.  After they removed the rear rocker panel they found a head bolt was just sitting in the hole not threaded into the head at all.  The only work done on the bike was the recall on the rear cylinder in 2008.  But the mechanic was not convinced that was the culprit of the sound.  When he pulled the rear head he discovered the exhaust valve stem guide was damaged.  He also pulled the cylinders.  Luckily there is no damage to pistons or cylinders.

The problem I am having is the dealer is telling my mechanic the rings for the 110 engines have been discontinued and are not available.  They are insisting that I have to purchase piston and rings as a set.  Does anyone know where I can purchase just the rings.  Also who the manufacture is for the pistons.

Thanks in advance.

110 piston rings are made by Mahle
Part number is  22285-07 originally and superseded to 22000001 for standards ~$220 ea / cyl. set (REALLY!) pistons are about the same each.
.005 is  22286-07 ~$40 ea / cyl. set
.010 is  22287-07 ~$44 ea / cyl. set

FYI 113" pistons, flat tops or domed Mahle pistons are available and make a great upgrade if the cylinders are bored .060 OS.
Also .005 rings can be file fit to a std bore if it is straight and concentric.

If the pistons and cylinders are good the best bet would be to order a set of +.005 rings (part# 22286-07) and have the dealer hand fit them.
