Struck Out With Avon
« on: January 13, 2015, 05:01:09 PM »

 In the last 9 months I've purchased 2 new Harleys, a 2014 CVO Roadking and a 2015 Roadglide Special. Doing some research for when I need tire replacement I find out Avon only has 1 tire that will fit the Roadglide, a rear only (180/65B16), no 19" fronts for either bike and no 18" rear for the King. Since the 1970's I've run more Avons than any other brand, and the Venoms and Cobras have been the best of the lot. Avon has nothing in the works according to the guy I spoke with today. Looks like I'm stuck with Dunflops.

I refused to take the Harley/Dunflop conspiracy.......had to give up a little on the load rating but have never had a problem. And me and the bride top out at slightly over 400#

On what tire(s) did you give up some on load rating?

I've ridden on Metzlers and Avon's on my baggers. The new Dunlop's personally I like, I'm getting 20,000 on the rear and I feel the wet weather ride ability has been great and I loved the Metzlers 880 except I couldn't get more than 8,000 miles out of a rear.

These OE Dunlop are way better than the ones that came stock on past models, going back to 1988 for me. I spend a fair amount of time in the twisties and prefer the Avons. Also like to have choices, remember when Dunlop had an interruption in manufacturing a few years back. Far as I know Dunlop is the only one that makes a front to fit both of my bikes.
