INFOTAINMENT ISSUES
« on: January 18, 2015, 10:17:27 AM »

Right before Christmas I traded my 13 CVO ultra for a 14 CVO limited, had 36 miles on the clock so it's a new bike. Have had to learn the new Infotainment system (still learning). It was working fine, did a 115 mile ride yesterday and radio was playing then it would drop out for a couple seconds then come right back on ( kinda like losing satellite radio under a bridge). Did the same with the I-POD. :nixweiss: Had the premium ride cartridge assembly installed and wondering if they left a connector loose or since this is a new bike have the system updates I've been reading about never been downloaded into this bike. Any thoughts or opinions on my problem?

Check that the CB is not on. I believe it will interrupt the music when it hears a signal.

Also, the intercom system 'breaking vox' with interrupt the audio from radio, ipod, etc.  So if your had a headset plugged in you might want to check your vox sensitivity settings.  If set too high and you are listening to your audio through the bike's speakers then that sound can reach the mic and activate the vox if it is set too sensitive - or even a strong gust of wind can activate it.

Mine does that, with the CB off, no head sets plugged in.  It does it on radio, Sat radio and iPod.  Not often and its only for a second or two.

Mine did that until I got the sensitivity dialed in. Very frustrating until then.

Thanks for the clue, but I checked it's cut off.

Headsets still in box. Rode 50 miles yesterday, irritating the chit out of me. :smilie_daumenneg:

UPDATE: Took the bike back again, same problem. Tech said Harley tech support walked him through procedure to reclalibrate, update, ect. "Got it fixed for ya". 500 yards down the road and it cut off again. Turned around and off two more times before I got back to dealership. Good news ( I hope ) mother Harley now sending whole new infotainment system.  :apple: :jalapeno: :apple:

I had the same problem and found out that it was the Navigation Prompt.  But I could not hear it because the volume  on the prompt was turned down too low.  Try increasing the volume the next time the radio cuts out.  If it is one of your prompts you will be able to increase the volume to hear it.  Then you will be able to address the situation.  I did not even know that I had a route selected in navigation.

Hope this helps.

X2  Happened to me on the way home from picking up the bike.  It was trying to take me back to the dealer.

Just to ask, because I didn't see anyone else mention it, are you sure you are running the latest and greatest firmware, or that the dealer installed it for you?  A buddy of mine with an SGS had a terrible time last year with all the FW updates and getting the dealer to manage it correctly (they didn't even know there was new firmware on the website).  He found it easy to do himself, and the instructions look straightforward...

Don't know that it solves any particular problem, but in computer terms, it's always a good idea and it looks like new firmware is fairly recent, 1/19/15.

Don't really know what they installed or did. Just know Harley tech support walked them through it and it didn't work. They told me something about the amps mounted to the side of the unit and they've had issues with them vibrating a loose connection. Harleys vibrate, who would have thought.  :nixweiss:

Have you tried increasing the volume, I mean while the radio is cut, increase the volume, this will do two things (if it is related to the problem) it will increase the volume of whatever is cutting the radio, and it will also show on the screen what volume it is increasing so you will know what it is that is cutting the radio. The scenario is, you are riding and all of a sudden the radio cuts out, at this very moment press up on the volume joystick, and see what it does.

This happens to a lot of riders because they do not know the CB (you already checked), VOX, or Navigation is interrupting the radio because they can not hear the prompts because of the volume setting, as Roaddogg and Boatman both have mentioned happened to them.

I just figured out that the navigation system prompts had a separate volume today because I was playing around with it on my way home to familiarize myself with it before this riding season. While the lovely lady is telling you where to go you can adjust the volume using the control on the left side. The only reason I was cognizant of it was because I was expecting her to order me around so was listening for it. Otherwise I would have been wondering the same thing you are.

Damn, I'm a idiot. Screen tells me prompt volume is muted. Turn up the volume and figure out when the radio cuts out it's giving me directions. Someone had loaded a route at the dealership. Sad thing is I've taken the bike back three times with this issue and they finally ordered a new system!!!!!!!!!! Seems like they would have checked.  :nixweiss: Confidence in dealer is pretty small right now. But I'm finally goooooood.  :apple:
