09 RG valve or lifter noise
« on: January 19, 2015, 03:57:24 PM »

I'm new to the 110 I seem to get a lot of valve or lifter chatter, if im just cruising around and roll back on the throttle I get  alot of chatter in any gear, what can be done with this, even when I was running 70-80 mph up and down the mountains here in Arizona, any help would be great, never heard any of this in my 95"

The 110 engine is a noisy one, but don't automatically assume what you're hearing is valve or lifter noise.  When you roll on the throttle under load, you can also get detonation (ping).  Make sure that isn't what you're hearing.  If it is, get the tune fixed and make sure you're running the right octane fuel for your build.

Hi Billyb, if you read the fine print on most "Octane Boost" products you will see that it will boost your octane one tenth of 1% of one octane. The best thing to do is find some 100 Octane right out of the pump. Be sure your tank is almost empty when you fill up and then you will feel the difference. Some of my local stations here in SO Cal sell it. It ain't cheap. I used to use it when I had an Evo with 11.5 to one compression. Big difference. CAHDBIKER

S&S lifters,p/rods & switching out the OEM springs for AV&V beehives will quite it down (if what your hearing is detionation, this wont help though.bike shouldn't be detionating, get a proper tune or better gas)
