Calibration level
« on: January 23, 2015, 01:58:07 PM »

Whats is the deference between ECM calibration strategy 44 and strategy 9 ?

I know strategy 44 is the stock calibration that Harley uses, but I have seen that some of the tuners use strategy 9 which is missing some of tables compare to strategy 44.

Dose this will effect the performance? And how the ECM will act with the missing tables

Thanks

I haven't seen a performance difference between the cals.  9's are the latest and greatest.  Less tables to adjust sounds worse than it is.  What is missing?   The biggest reason I use them is because they have more cal codes to choose from.

What I have notice that the drive by wire throttle limit vs gear is not there as will as:

Closed loop min temp
Knock control min temp
Knock control min temp hyst
Ingector gas constant
Map adjustment
Speedometer Calibration

And on limits I do not see the close loop Control

Is there a way to do some merging between cal 44 and cal 9 or to merge the above missing table to 9 cal?

Also another stupid question is there company's that working in developing the strategys level

Thanks

IMO There are tables and then there are useful tables.  Seemed that the market demanded more tables and Vision put them in there but I really haven't found too many of them useful.

Closed loop min temp.  This is set up to be 167 or 168.  When and why would this be changed.  What data do we look at that lets us know this needs to be changed?  Is CL unstable at this temp.  Why?  Change the cause of why it is unstable.  Not bandaid, by turning it off.

Knock control min temp.  I don't see a lot of problems with knock at cool temps.  A matter of fact.  I have added spark in the Spark temp correction table to help with cold engines and warm up.  If I was having knock problems with a cold engine.  I wouldn't want to take out the feature.  I would want to reduce timing, and fix the problem.

I also wonder how vision states to use these tables?  There is nothing in their Powervision User Guide for any of these tables.  I would bet you would get the line of.  No reason to adjust those.  If you called their tech.

Speedo calibration is another story.  It is a convenience.
