Most Famous Member of the Greatest Generation
« on: January 25, 2015, 10:13:07 PM »

I'm losing my Dad. Greatest man I have ever known. 93yo hero. He also must have been a magician.....he got me to manhood and I was as twisted as a yo-yo string.
While sitting at his bedside today a memory popped into my mind that had been long since forgotten. Pulled up to his fishing cabin on a '69 chopped Triumph Trident. He had never been on a bike before then and not since, but when I said "lets go for a ride' he said "OK". Got too the main road and went for bout a 10 mile loop. We got back to the river and I said "well, how was it?" He said "I'm not sure, when we got on the blacktop I looked down and we were doing 80....I had my eyes closed the rest of the way!" I would give anything to be able to take him on another ride. He flew 103 missions as a Flight Engineer on a B24-J Liberator during WWII. Forever my Hero.

Great tribute, Jimmy!   :2vrolijk_21:   Youre right about the greatest generation.  I was privileged to take my 86 year old Father for a ride today....

Jimmy love to hear what and impact your Father has inter-weaved into your life. God bless his live and service to our Country. I enjoy hearing the impact family has on our lives. Lost my parents early in life so never built such memories, never any regrets. 103 missions over enemy skies WOW!

Jimmy, I'm sorry about your Dad, but I'm glad you had so many memories with him and are able to honor him here. His generation made so many sacrifices for this country and the well being of others.

Thanks for sharing a portion of your life with us. I look forward to riding with you and your Son again soon.  :2vrolijk_21:

Such a great tribute to your dad, Jimmy.  It's the memories you cherish like the one you wrote about that will keep him alive within you, brother.  The good Lord be with you and your family during this time and thanks be to God for your dad and all those like him that fought and are still fighting to keep this country free

My step-father just hit 94, flew 69 missions over Germany in the B 26 Marauder and can still get into his flight jacket after all these years.  Greatest generation is putting it mildly.  My hat is off and my heart is praying for those that are still with us and to the families of those that have gone on.
