Top speed for a SEEG?
« on: June 17, 2005, 08:45:31 AM »

What is the theroretical top speed for a 05 (or 04) SEEG?

You know, the  sprocket gearing X the tire size X 5700 RPM(stock limit).

Numerically what should it do?

This question is not a comparison of anyone's bike but rather a question that "assuming" an average SEEG makes enough power to reach that numerical top speed, what would that be.

You know, at 5700 on a good road (with DJW on break) what's it doing?

Come on MATH guys and girls, sharpen those pencils. And show us the the math to get there!

HD,

Skip the equation.........top speed is 138mph per Sparky. And he has the police chase video to proof it. [smiley=shocked2.gif] [smiley=dunce2.gif] [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Claims if he could've hit 150 mph they would never have caught him! How's that for bravado........ [smiley=smoking.gif] [smiley=dunce2.gif] [smiley=drink.gif]

I popped a little over 125 out of mine the other day, but it was a bit spooky.  It just doesn't handle like my Duc at those velocities.  (Does have a lot less wind though!)

Nope,  not at all Mr. We. Haven't you noticed how Tater and I have changed lately.
We took that CVO sensitivity course offered by 103T.
There were 3 in our class. Me, Tater, and KNG103.
Two of us passed!

Just trying to get some thoughts together to find out what the #s  say a SEEG should do!

I'm soooooooooooo innocent on this one [smiley=nervous.gif]

HD,

Sparky as he is now affectionately known is a local daredevil who owns both a 2004 SEEG Pumpkin and a Blue Screaming Eagle Road Glide. He got the nickname because on the fateful night of the police chase he clipped the rear end of a Lexus 430 doing the infamous 138 mph. The police  [smiley=policeman.gif]said as he was sliding down the highway all you could see was sparks shooting up from his belt buckle and titanium leg. And best part of the story is he only sustained rash on his a$$ from the spill he took and no other injuries. Amazing since he wasn't wearing a helmet! [smiley=shocked2.gif] The SEEG should have been totaled but the local "HD stealer" kept the initial repairs at around $25k, since then they've done another $5k plus trying to get the bike right and that part of the saga continues..........

The titanium leg was the result of a motorcycle spill a few years back on a rice burner. Sparky is definitely a cat with nine lives.........who likes living on the edge. I think he's an occasional lurker on this site also.

The 2004 SEEG was basically stock with only a SE Breather Kit and Hooker True Duals added at the time.

when your speedometer needle is into the odometer section of the speedo gauge and running past left of center of the odometer - how fast is that - the steering distortion is more pronounced also on throttle let off after backing out of this speed - this is not an 04 but an 05 yellow

Sorry, Chip, I wish I could be more help.  But when I am passing SEEG's with my Screamin Eagle Road Glide I usually have all of 5th gear left.  Which means that the SEEG is probably about 133.

I remain Otis.

Not very elegant, but it is accurate:

Engine Speed versus Road Speed, 5th Gear, FLHTCSE2

Max RPM (Rev Limiter)  =  5800
Overall Gear Ratio – 5th Gear  =  3.15
Rear Tire Diameter  =  25.71 inches
Rear Tire Circumference  =  80.77 inches

  RPM:     Road Speed 5th Gear:

  1000                24.3  mph
  2000                48.6  mph
  3000                72.8  mph
  4000                97.1  mph
  5000              121.4  mph
  5800              140.8 mph

Road Speed  =  RPM  x  0.02428

Calculations:

Engine Speed RPM  ÷   Final Drive Ratio  =  Rear Wheel RPM
[5800  ÷  3.150  =  1841 rpm]

Tire Circumference  ÷  63360 inches per mile  =  Miles per Revolution
[80.77 inches  ÷  63360  =  0.00127478 miles per revolution]

Rear Wheel RPM  x  Miles per Revolution  =  Miles per Minute
[1841  x  0.00127478  =  2.3469 miles per minute]

Miles per Minute  x  60  =  Miles per Hour
[2.3469  x  60  =  140.8 mph]

Similar calculations can be made for gears 1 thru 4 by substituting
the appropriate final drive ratios in the first formula:

1st         10.110
2nd          6.958
3rd           4.953
4th           3.862
5th           3.150

And FYI

This also means that magoo's 138 was very possible!

And that Sparky wouldn't have outrun the law since 150 isn't possible without gearing changes!

Again, thanks GRC

Hey Tater

Since we all know know now that GRC can figure this out.

How bout telling him what redline is on Maude and what gears are in that six speed.

He could then figure out what the theroretical top speed on that "LED SLED" is.

Probably 140.7 would be my guess, but it wouldn't be the first time I was wrong.

Might be less! [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif]
