Yeah, 'er 'uh, Twolane,
Please allow me to walk you through this.  My statement was symbolic

I had kinda figured that out  [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif]

Now just need to need to find the bone stock bagger with the long down hill and a tail wind to try to earn the promised photo.  [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]

Guys,

I never said Sparky's bike was bone stock in my previous posts. He'll admit to a SE breather kit and Hooker True Duals. From that point on he gets evasive [smiley=shifty.gif], guess he figures we can see those items...........

And Hub relax (just a little)........I was just trying to get another of your classic replies when I got on you about "idle speed" the other day. And now I'm an air traffic controller......yikes we'll all be taking the train now! [smiley=rolleyes5.gif]

HUB & HD - there was NO question - just a BS post - its kind of like asking (if your a skeet shooter) how far would you have to "lead" a falcon that flys 200 mph in a dive to hit him - its all relative - how fast a bike goes is when your out on a twolane (not our 2lane) and who beats who - who cares - its who's riding it if ya got the balls to crunch the throttle - if #1 can do 130 and #2 do 120 at max speed - #1 may not have the balls to take it that fast and #2 will kick his a--

duh-er-ah I get it

Yeah, 'er 'uh, Twolane,
Yeah, like in straight down a well with a tail wind!  Of course, that would require a "Black Box" to prove.  It just ain't gonna' happen!  Later--HUBBARD

I got a brief visit to 128 scored on a black box (only a mild downhill) with the red bike earlier this year.  But that's not 140, so no fracking picture.....  [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

OK - assuming we are talking the Harley six speed with the 0.89 overdrive, the numbers would be as follows:

Primary ratio x trans ratio x final drive ratio = overall final drive ratio
1.44 x 0.89 x 2.188 = 2.80 overall ratio

(RPM / Overall Final Drive Ratio) x .0765 = MPH  (with stock rear tire)

(6200 / 2.80) x .0765 = 169.4 mph

Guess the next really interesting number would be to see just how much engine output would be need to overcome the bike's drag coefficent to actually get there.  Whatever it is, I want that motor  [smiley=7.gif]

I've never seen wind tunnel results for an Electra Glide, but I'm guessing that the drag coefficient would be similar to a large sheet of plywood.  I'm thinking that you would need at least 160 to 180 HP, and balls the size of an elephant, to hit 170 mph.  A stiff tailwind wouldn't hurt either.

Maybe the speedo should read higher  [smiley=laugh.gif] Or I should quit being a cheapskate and go buy a GPS.  Would a DIGITAL replacement speedo read higher?.  I'd imagine so.  My SEEG speedo has been pinned a few times, and there was still some power left.  That's the only bonus to Jap bikes... my 2000 Honda CBR1100XX speedo read up to 195.  So I KNEW I was doing 175.  And no, that wasn't the top speed... things got blurry and I ran out of "safe" road.

HD2003,

You're welcome.  Actually, I started calculating this stuff back in the 70's for each new bike.  I found back then that the tachs were a whole lot more accurate than the speedo, and I liked to know my actual speed.  By the way, using this method on my last two Harley's indicated that the speedo is pretty darned close.  I figure my SEEG is reading no more than 1 mph fast at 70 mph.

I checked all of GRC's numbers and they are right.  So, now I know why the bike is so much fun, but never thought it would take a math wiz to tell me, I just inherantly knew it.  I have no idea what you guys are talking about.  [smiley=nixweiss.gif] At 7000 ft above sea level, I ran up to 125, then ran out of road, in the mountains, shut it down to a sane speed. [smiley=trailer.gif]  Had plenty of throttle left, but the bat wing fairing thing got me a little nervous.  If you look at it, it is designed sorta like a kite, and I think it wants to give you some lift at those speeds.  [smiley=zwtf.gif]  I like to keep the front end on the ground as much as possible.
