Quick Detachable trunk / pak 2009 Ultra SE
« on: March 01, 2009, 10:59:08 AM »

While I got the bug and am tinkering with the bike during the Vermont "down time" - has anyone come up with a clever solution to removing the trunk?  It gets quite a bit involved and the amplifier is mounted under the trunk.  If I had he time, I would try to design a way to be able to remove the trunk and when the trunk is on, push it rearward a couple of inches for my passenger.  I think some have relocated the amp to a saddlebag, but sure hate to give up that space.   Thanks and come on spring!! :bananarock:

There is a new accessory kit available from the Moco. It should be available now or soon. Only for '09 bikes, though:

p/n 53246-09

Detachable Tour-Pak® Rack Kit for Electra Glide® Classic and Ultra Classic® Models - '09 models

Transform your Electra Glide® Classic model for around town cruising. This kit includes everything needed to convert the rigid-mount Tour-Pak® to an easy on-and-off detachable version. In just seconds (and without tools), you can install the Tour-Pak® for that long run across the country, and remove it for a stripped-down look when you get there. It also makes it possible to install a detachable Sissy Bar Upright and passenger backrest pad for around-town passenger comfort. Complete kit includes two-up docking hardware kit, detachable Two-Up Tour-Pak® Rack chrome strut covers, chrome license plate holder, reflector, and AM/FM antenna relocation hardware.

Should be around $450 with the usual discounts.

Ride safely,
Louis

That's great that the moco has come up with a solution.  I'll need to research if it works with the 09 CVO Ultra.  I understand there is an additional amp to contend with?   I do not know the difference between the gear under the trunk between a CVO and standard Ultra.  If anyone does know - please jump in!

While i have not seen this kit i can bet that it will not work with the CVO Ultra due to the amp that is mounted under the tourpack. The wire issues with the amp are the same on the 09 and the 06-08 model CVO Ultra's

My parts guy recently said they came out with a new wiring kit to make this possible (I'm not 100% certain though).
Check with your favorite parts guy.

Yes there is a wiring kit, but it has a different purpose. I can't see a difference between a CVO Ultra and a non-CVO Ultra regarding to the Tourpak set-up. For the part listed above, the Moco says:
Fits '09-later FLHTC, FLHTCU, and FLHTCUSE4 models. FLHTCU models require separate purchase of Tour-Pak® Quick Disconnect Harness for Ultra Models P/N 70032-09.

I'm going to spend some QT with the parts folks.  They accidently ordered the wrong manual for another customer and called me to see if I would like it for my FLHTCUSE4.  I think it would be GREAT to have the flexibility to remove the trunk and throw it back on for those long trips!  If I can find anything, I'll be sure to post it.  I've got the fever - was 32 degrees today and felt "WARM"!
