Dood, if I remember correctly Mark has got the bigger OD "Chubby" bars on his banana.

Mark...if you get the Techmount, just make sure you get the 1 1/4" clamp for the bars.  The clamp part is made slightly different, otherwise, the rest of the mount is the same.

How many characters are allowed for waypoints on the Zumo. My 2610 only allows for 10. My previous GPS V alowed 20. How's that for forward progress?

d00d, already got one. Used to use a CB w/t and have all the CHROME mounts for it BUT after seeing the Techmount, I had to have it. I'm such a CHROME whore. (and you certainly don't help my self control) ;D ;D ;D ;D
You aren't alone. When I saw it I had to have it too. :2vrolijk_21: There was no way I was going to put that POS (I only say that because it's not chrome ;D) mount on my bike that Garmin supplied so it would clash w/everything else. :nervous:

Techmount has there mounts in different diameter he'll just have to make sure he gets the size that corresponds to his handlebars.

Chuck,
Do you mean how many will actually appear on the Zumo screen or the amount of characters that Mapsource will allow you to save it with?

My Zumo is on my bike so I just tried creating/saving a waypoint in edit Zumo Mapsource as this - "I want to call this whatever I want because I don't want a limit on characters" and it took.

500 in the Zumo.  2000 in the 2820.

Do over. I'm looking for how many characters are allowed in waypoint names. I'm tired of "BESTWESTRN" instead of "BEST WESTERN HOTEL"

Mapsource doesn't care, but when you load into the GPS, the names gets truncated to what the unit allows. I was curious if the Zumo is friendlier in that regard than the Street Pilots.

Ok. Not really sure on that as I haven't saved/used any waypoints that I can remember w/long names. :nixweiss: I'll have to try it and see.

Thanks. That would be nice to know. The 2610 locked up coming home from HS on Sunday and I thought I was going to be looking for a replacement. fortunately I was able to get the knots worked out and it was fine the rest of the way home. It did get me interested in seeing what a good replacement may be. I REALLY want radar and I hope they put it in a touch screen unit. SOON!!!

Crap.  I loaded a couple for the Hot Springs trip but was very unimaginative in naming them.  Used titles like "Room" and "Eat Friday."  Now I'll have to play with the darned thing to see what it allows.

I just called Garmin and was told....

Zumo 30 characters, mixed case.
GPSMap 478 10 Characters.
2610 (from experience) 10 characters, upper case.

I figured you had better things to do with your time than test things for me. The Garmin people get paid to do that kind of stuff. I was really impressed with 30. That's really good.  :2vrolijk_21:

No problem I had to get the unit off the bike to update City Navigator anyway. Besides if I asked you to test something for me you'd be more then willing to do it. :2vrolijk_21:
