- pipes are aftermarket
- missing factory trunk
- has piece of velcro on fairing
- mabye some extra chrome on the engine?

Some people just like carbs.  Some people had problems with the Marelli injection systems.  Some just like carbs....

Maybe we can't tune the FI systems in the garage like we used to our carbs.  But I don't miss not having to carry a spare carb or jets to to over the mountains.  And I don't miss the carb everytime the bike just starts when the weather is cold.  I'm a fuel injection fan.

          As Twolane pointed out, carbs are sensitive to altiude, but at the time this bike was sold, EFI technology was not what it is today. There were very few shops doing performance work with EFI and fewer still parts available. My guess would be that there's been more done to this motor than meets the eye. Hindsight is 20/20 obviously and in hindsight, it would be better had the change not been made. As I said however, my guess would be the owner who change to a carb wanted more than he could get with what was available in the EFI marketplace at that time.

I would advise anyone looking to buy an B/W/O 00 SERG to pass on this one.

Since you've already bought it, I have good news and bad news for you.

The good news is there has been an explosion of EFI Technology since this bike was orginally sold, so returning it to stock condition or Hi-Po EFI isn't a problem

The bad news is it costs money.

Ride it the way it is till something breaks. Make your decision what to do then at that time.

I like the new injection. I could not justify the cost to upgrade my 01. Now if I were given a choice at the point of purchase (new bike) I'd take injection.  On the flip side the new PSI carbs claim to be as close to injection as one can get without having injection. A pretty strong claim for a $1000 carb!

Still looking to see what the tell-tale sign of a carb is.  It sorta looks to me like the same intake manifold as mine (below).   Might see the enrichener knob just above the horn, but awful blurry when the photos enlarged.  Did the seller advertise it as a carbed bike?

The son inherited the bike from his dad who was the original purchaser. He says that there have been lots of engine mods but could not detail them out. I will ask about the carb situation.

Bsed on the pics I cannot tell if there is a carb on it, It does still have both EFI fuel lines. I do not see any indication of it being carbed?

Yeah, I've seen that chrome tube cross-over used on several early FI bikes.  They didn't convert to the current style breather until sometime around '02.

LOL...No not going to Sedona,  Won't take the bet either. The pics are not close enough to tell. Both EFI lines being there indicates EFI but the EVO style venting is typical of carbed bikes? I have seen EFI bikes with that vent tube.

They all came with that, but you can still get those from the dealer.

Didn't say this before (too intent on carb vs. FI ), but congrats on the purchase!

The crossover was also part of some old versions of the Stage 1 air cleaner kit.  Vent went in to the back of the air cleaner.  Puke hose could've been hung off the vent nipple instead of going to the air cleaner as it had originally.  If that's what's going on I hope it doesn't mean that the bike is venting so much oil that he had to puke it out on the ground because doing it in the air cleaner was either a huge mess or a carbon creation machine.

The owner went through a lot of trouble to make the carb conversion. With the carb your bike will run a lot cooler and probably have a happier and longer life. I wish it was easy to convert to points to make it complete, only the early cone engines lent themselves to that. Congrats on your purchase. Doc

That wasn't the intent, even though that's what happened.  I had blown up the photos of gw's bike and thought I saw the same MM intake manifold as is on my bike . . . . . . so, I just posted that pic of mine for reference in case anyone else wanted to compare his pics to a MM bike.

yeah ... i know. There is more to the story that makes me feel a bit more comfortable but in the end they do have my cashiers check and I have nothing other than their word at this point.

I spoke with the sellers wife tonight and she confirmed that they do have the original pipes and it does include a cover (not sure which cover). I knew that she would not know the carb/efi question so I just told her to have the husband call me.

No there are quite a few owners.  It is due to be opened in 2016...

The Blantons, with a little horsey on top is a very, very, very, very, ( did I say very) good sippin whiskey.
Some of the smoothest 93+ proof you can sip...I like a couple of ice cubes to open it up like a good scotch maybe even a little "branch water".

I have been with Makers for years though, easy to find, the best in its price range and you don't have to feel bad if it gets mixed.

If you look closely there are 3 motorcycles in that first picture. The one on the handy lift (green one) is a honda ST90 (not sure of the year). Everyone probably recognizes the Orange/Black/White one ... in front of that one there is a 1970 model blue CT70 (under the green tarp). I have several 50/70/90 hondas that I am going to hopefully get around to restoring one day.

They are great little bikes...Don't muss with the paint if it is good shape on lil guys...Origianl paint, even in less than perfect shape is more desireable...Mine is only mechanically restores, here is my lil one and his big bro

It is a 1970, KO, 4 speed.  Even gets to 30 with my fatass onit.  The steering is suspect, I will replace the neck bearings with tapered rollers here shortly.  I like that lil 50 dude.  These guys are pretty good for parts.  Good luck with the resto, they are worth doing.
