Gary,

Good to see your involved in the forum over there, I don't know how you do it. I don't believe it will be that long before your a specialist on the Zumo.

btw, here's a link from the zumo forum with a handy installation guide. Quite a bit of information including a link to Jim's (hd-dude) guide Adding An Optional Auxiliary Input Jack To Back Of Harley Radio.

Roy,
I don't know about being a specialist but I at least want to be able to work it. ;) I had printed out that install information along w/the information that others here provided on installing the Zumo before purchasing mines. The only way I can work on my bike is with detailed instructions and pictures (exploded, detailed pictures are even better :)).

For those that are concerned about scratching the face of your Zumo I found a product you might be interested in. It's called Invisible Shield (you can click the name and it will take you to shield for Zumo). It has a lifetime warranty and is only $12.95 w/free postal service shipping. The application reminds me of window tint. They provide you with a solution that you spray on your fingertips and shield along with a squeegee to remove the solution from under the shield after it has been applied. It was an easy application and you have to look hard around the perimeter of the face of the Zumo to see it. Of course there has to be a little gap to get the solution out, but it is not noticeable unless you get really close.

They have many other shields for other electronic gadgets also. This particular shield that fits the Zumo actually states that it is for another Garmin product, but if you compare the size of the display screen you'll notice that they are both the same size.

Gary, do you have a pic of it on your bike? I have been contemplating this, would jump on it if it had a FM modulator, just a lil nervous it seems rather large for a bike. I have the XM Inno and use it in the truck as well so this could replace that and my laptop GPS software but would require wired connection in the truck as well as the bike. I like the concept of the NAVTraffic and Weather feature also. I am more interested lately as XM seems to have cut even deeper into signal quality lately so a wired connection will be better sound quality than the FM Modulator.

Ceej,
Take a look at the following thread - Standard GPS or Garmin - implementation starting w/reply #27 - #32, and #42 - #44 for the addition of the flame caps and mod I did to power plug. In that thread before the pictures there is a list of all parts (mount, power plug, and audio cable) that were used for install.

I've heard of people using them in the 550's, and would think they would work in the 450's. :nixweiss:

I used a 2GB card recently and it takes about 1 minute for the maps and songs to display now. Couldn't imagine how long an 8GB would take?

I used Bizrate when I purchased mines. They will search for the cheapest price and at the time it was PC Nation.

I just bought mine from getfeetwet.com....   I got the zumo 450 with flaming caps overnited to me for $602.  Ordered on Monday, received Tuesday b4 10:30am, installed Tuesday nite and test drove it tonight!  Drove thru a tank to checkout the Gas warning..  Pretty slick.  Also loaded the Redlight Camera POIs and HD.

Nice unit!
