Open up Mapsource click on "view" then "map detail".. I have mine set at "medium" (see red line in screen caputure below), you can also change it by clicking on the arrow next to medium (see red line again).. I'm also zoomed in to "0.2 miles" (see blue line in screen capture). If that is not what you have you might want to change the map details and zoom in. :nixweiss:

It looks like you only have the base maps that come with MapSource with no detail maps provides with City Navigator.

Bob
That could be it too. :)

This morning when I responded I was getting ready for work and didn't have time to duplicate the parameters you noted to see what would happen. I just tried the city you mention and below is the screen shot of what I got...

I'm using Mapsource Ver 6.15.6 and City Navigator North America NT 2010.1 map. They seem to be showing up fine for me. :nixweiss:

thanks!!!  we called garmin tech support today.  for some reason the "find nearest places" will not work at all.  and tech support couldnt help.
HOWEVER, we are able to get everything to pop up if we just use "find places".  i have no idea what gives, and neither did tech support, but at least now we know there is a way for him to find what he needs  :-)

Thanks so much for your help!!!!!

Where does the Zumo draw the data from for nearest places?

When I look for restaurants for example it will direct me to ones that are no longer there, or not list ones that are new.

Also, how does it choose the route that you take?

Sometimes it will take us one way to our destination, and home a completely different way!

The data comes from the maps you have installed in the unit. The newest map set for North America is "City Navigator North America NT 2010.2" and even with that map on your Zumo there will be times that things aren't up to date. You may find things that are no longer there or things that it is not listing that are there... with the constant fluctuation of business closing/opening it takes time for the info to be received by Navteq (makers of the maps) and updated.

The route is chosen by the features you have set up in "Navigation Settings" on your Zumo. Click on "wrench" then "navigation" and see what the "avoidance's" you have selected. I don't have my Zumo handy, but looking in Mapsource under routing preferences they have avoidance's listed and the unit may/may not have all the same. For instance if you have avoid U-Turns selected and that was required to mirror the way you came it's a possibility that the unit will give you a different route to get back home. There are other avoidance's that may be selected that could alter the to/from route.

I just added the GTM-12 traffic module to my 550, and it's really great value, and works great.  Cost me $33 and includes a lifetime subscription to Trafficmaster.  Recommended!  :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21:

Got it (new and unused) off ebay, and yes the one I got (the GTM-12 - there are several, dunno what the difference is!) is listed as working with the 660:

Maybe youze already know this, but I'm a dope when it comes to this chit. I was bummed not having the entire NA Map on my Zumo 550. I had to choose only a portion of it since the size was so big. You'd need to put the rest of it on an SD card, or get the portion you need from their website before a trip. Kinda lame, but the maps just keep getting bigger and bigger I guess. I called Garmin to find out if there was a way to get the WHOLE NA Map on it. The guy worked with me to clear EVERYTHING I didn't need from the Zumo 550 memory. So now I have only Jill talking to me, English as the only language, and only a motorcycles as my icon. Did youze know all them extra languages and the other things take up a chitload of space? Get rid of EVERYTHING you don't need and there's enough room to fit the entire NA Map on the Zumo 550. That is until they update the map where it exceeds the capacity of the Zumo 550 completely. I have it the way I want it for now. So for those who had to choose a map region instead of the entire NA like I did, that's the reason why. It will fit! ;)

I plugged the Zumo into the computer, then opened it in My Computer. There are files you don't need. Open all the folders and you'll see how many languages, voices, and vehicles you have on the memory. Just delete them all except the 1 voice, language and vehicle you want. That cleared enough memory to get the whole map on for me. After you clear everything, right click on the Zumo in My Computer and hit Properties. It'll show you how much memory you have free. It should be just about everything but your map (which is most of it). The new map is 1.91 GB. So you need just about all of the Zumo 550 memory for it. I think it's a 2GB memory. But it fits! ;)

One other thing to check is to make sure you only have one map image on your Zumo. If you click on "wrench" > "map" > "map info" you should only see one map (see pic below) stored on your Zumo. If you have other maps showing (if you are in the US/Canada and haven't loaded any other maps/countries it should appear like the pic below) more then likely you have sent extra maps to the Zumo when importing routes. These duplicate images will take up extra space and aren't needed.

When I updated my maps I did get the message that it needed more space, but it only deleted the MP3's that came preloaded. I did have 1 extra splash screen, and 1 extra vehicle icon and both those stayed on the Sumo w/o any problem.
