My Dual Bike conversion is complete
« on: March 17, 2013, 08:55:16 PM »

well, Here it is, I bought the CVO Ultra cause I love the color, Love the Heated grips and Cushy heated seat for long trips and Mamma loves the comfort of the Tour Pak backres, rear speakers, and adjustable Floorboards, Oh and lets not forget the GPS. But I dont always take long trips and being somewhat of a custom Bagger builder I decided to turn my Ultra into a Street Glide and Back in about 30 minutes or less. Heres what I did,

1. I purchased the tourpak removal kit and installed.
2. I purchased a set of V-twin Bags for 300. and had them painted.
3. I purchased a complete Fender and Yaffe Stealth Plate holder
4. Had an old streetglide shield and Turn Signals
5. My good Friend CVOStu had his original 2012 StreetGlide Seat and Passenger backrest he wasnt using and BAM!!!

The transformation in my opinion was very simple, relocationg the amp to the saddle bag with new connectors was the only time consuming detail in the entire build. The bags, relocation kit and PAint was all a gift from my lovely new wife. Again, CVOStu really hooked me up with the seat.

Looks awesome!  Who did the paint?  I would not have wanted to lose the light from the spots, but it does clean the front end up.  Nice job. :2vrolijk_21:

I still have my CVo OEM spot Lights with trucklight lamps. I moved the connectors down under ignition panel so all I have to do is unplug and unscrew two bolts on either side and put back on and plug in with out removing Outer Batwing cap. I will use them on long trips and when a lot of night riding is ahead.

A guy in Fort Lauderdale bout 25 minutes from the house, called Custom Coatings did the bags and art. $1000.00 total and a local guy did the fender a PPG house and he charged 300.00 it was only the orange and I had the code from here that was from the 09 color Electric Orange and its perfect match. The fender is metal however so there is a little difference out of the sun but when the sun hits it, its exact.

Thank you guys for all the kind words.

The Amp I re- routed to right Saddlebag
The Antenna's I cut out and used the Boom Audio hidden one and put in front fairing per instructions
The Ride passenger two way communication devise I rolled up and put in left side cover
The Tourpak speakers and lights I rolled up and store under seat .

They all fit very nice as long as you kep them rolled nice and organized.

GREAT LOOKING CONVERSION!!!!! That bike looks great. The best part about it is you can be ready to hit the highway in a very short time with all of the comforts of your Ultra!!! If I didn't already have my "HOTROD" I would do the same thing on Saphire. But "OLE PUNKIN" would be soooo jealous!!!!

Be Safe

Very nicely done, tasteful conversion! I loved your bike's Electric Orange and Black color scheme the first time I ever saw one.

Now you have one of the few real "SESG Ultras"... An Ultra converted to a SG, not vice versa. The extended bags and SESG/SERG rear fender really make the bike, and the paint match looks awesome.

Congrats!

Meh. I just know how to bolt stuff on/in, and rewire things to make them work.

What you have done with your "SESGUC" is truly unique and very creative! You won't see another one like your beautiful bike anywhere... and THAT'S what makes it so special!

WELL PLAYED!

Amp was easy. If you can't find and 18 pcs molex connector buy two. Cut wires at seat and make your new connectors. <y harley tech let me use the tool to crimp the pins. Drill a hole big enough for the large wire to run in your left saddle bag and get a grommit for the hole and mount amp in right saddlebag. I cut the original mounting tabs off actual amp to make it smaller and left bottom off and covered with screen to breath. Works like a champ. I'll post some pick tomorrow.

Wonderful conversion!  Many go from a SG to an Ultra, but I like the way you think... Most likely more cost effective as well?  :nixweiss:

Brian,
This is Roger, I emailed you the other day about handle bars. I did my Amp a little different. I mounted mine to the front in my box and put an hole/slot at the top of my box and used a grommet. This way I can just unplug at the amp take the bag off.
I rerouted my amp wire under my frame near the front of the seat and have it coming out at the rear of the side cover. If it is ran this way the wire is long enough to go to the saddle bag and no connections are need.

Both work great, but for the guys that are nervous about cutting into wires, this is another alternative. I will put a couple of pictures up tomorrow if I have a chance.

Great Bike Brian, looks like a lot of time was spent on it. I'm sure you love it.

I thought about that way as well Roger. Your right either way will work. If I wanna pull that bag I have to pull the seat up first. I try not to though because I have locks on the bags so people can't jack them. Bags were cheap enough but the paint to match is what cost the big money.

V-twin from Eastern Performance 325.00 No freight. Identical to Harley CVo Bags perfect fit and almost no prep work required by body to paint. I would have bought from harley but they did not offer our Paint scheme in stretched bags. My painter charged a grand but he is expensive but worth it. You would never know by looking at them with a microscope. I had Fiberglass bags before that were longer but no matter how good the painter and body guy they still look a little wavy to me and the prep time and body work is very labor intensive.

Brian
I'm changing my handle bars out this weekend. How do I get the rear bolts of the bar clamp off. Does the inner fairing need to move or will the bolts just miss it as it comes out? I'm going to see if they make the ball end star wrenches today so I can get back on it.

Thanks for any help.

The radio has to come out.  Should be able to get at them easily after that. Keep your ball end Allen's handy for that.

There are 4 bolts that hold the fairing on. Loosen the top bolt & remove the bottom bolt on each side. This will let you move the fairing forward to get to all the bolts on the clamp. If I remember it is easier to remove the spotlight bar & lay it down on the front fender.

Don't forget to cover up your fender & wrap the spotlight bar up in a towel!

Stu is definately an  instigator. HE should have just given me that stereo equipment, all he listens to is Abba, Yanni and seals and croft. They dont need to played that loud.

That's me.
I have been changing my bars out and forgot about the pictures. I will take some tonight. I am waiting on a longer clutch line anyway so I have to put the bars on hold until I get the line to complete.

Yes Yes Tonight.

Last one. I tried switching the wire 90 to the other side but it did work correctly. The wire still wanted to stick out because it needed to go throught the bag itself.

I havn't got a chance to look at the newer cvo ultras.  Thought about getting another one.  Is there not enough room between the fender and the saddlebag to mount the amp there in the cover mount piece there like i did on my 06?  Seemed the best place to not loose room in the saddle bag and have heat problems.

How is the amp anchored??  Just to the liner?

mine is mounted with two sided auto tape. It's used to mount emblems on cars and it is taped to the front of the bag itself. I cut the liner so it would stick through. You will have to grind a little off the amps mounting flange but the amp is never touched. You can find the good tape pretty much anywhere.

Mine is Velcro to the liner. I too cut the ears off my amp on both sides and filed it smooth. Ive ridden several hundred miles or so and no movement of the amp inside the bag. As far as heat goes, Its as hot or hotter sitting on top of the radio in the Fairing with no ventilation. They are made to withstand heat obviously, Ive never had a problem of any of my bike amps shutting off .

Question for you Brian. What bag liners are you using in there with the stretched bags?  Looks like the mounting holes line right up? If you used the stock liners is there a gap under the liner for the stretched part?
Thanks

Bro,

You home Jess?
Sure am! Rode nonstop 13 hours and about 630 miles yesterday. Ducked 2 major storms by changing routes. Took longer to get home but never got wet! Dropped the bike at a gas station on it's left side but it never touched the ground no damage!  :o That was after about 11.5 hours in the saddle too much weight leaning left in a parking lot and I was tired as hell!  :huepfenlol2:

Did you maintain keyless lockability of the bags and what harness was involved to light the back lights?
