Jiffy Stand hitting frame
« on: July 07, 2013, 09:34:43 AM »

So I have been hearing a clunk when putting the jiffy stand up. I did some investigating and found the stand has been striking the frame rail enough to chip through the paint. I repaired the damage but cannot figure out the poor design. It looks like the rubber bumper on the stand only make contact with a small part of the primary cover. If its moved just a little the end of the stand makes contact with the frame. Anyone else have this issue and fixed it?

Same problem, mine was bent and cracked at the bend. I straightened, welded and will turn in on warranty.  They really need a better design.

The last couple bikes I have had, that has been a problem as well.  It is a small hard rubber piece that wraps around the frame in a C sort of shape.  Then the jiffy stand comes up and makes contact with it and is mostly silent.  But it is usually placed so that the same problem you experienced happens.  In my case, I had to take a channel lock and move it into the proper location.  My hands and fingers just couldn't move it much as it is very durable.  Just move it until the jiffy stand comes to rest in the proper spot.      Pork.

I had to weld the jiffy stand right where it bends.  I noticed my bike leaning over more than normal, inspected and found the problem.  Good thing I caught it before it fell clear over.

Was this a HD part you purchased?

I had the rubber bumper installed on Saturday. Softails do not have this part as standard. It only comes on Dynas. However, the dyna part fits the softail frame. Problem solved...for now.

This problem you are having must not be on your softail convertible because it most certainly does come standard on the convertible, which is a softail.  Did you have to purchase one?  Pork

No. The dealer looked at the parts diagram for the stand and the frame and there is no such piece shown. According to his diagram at least.
