Luggage for SEUC
« on: May 29, 2009, 08:53:44 AM »

I can't believe it, but Harley finally came out with a nicer piece of luggage to fit the luggage racks on the newer SEUC's.  http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/gma_product.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524448773719&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302286945&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302286945&bmUID=1243601192142&bmLocale=en_US  I haven't seen one in person yet, so I don't know if it will work better than what I already have...but at least it looks like they finally have a decent size bag available.

I want to see one in person before I decide whether selling the one I have would be in order.  I doubt it though.  I wish it was available back when I was shopping around for bags.

I wasn't aware that bag would fit nicely inside the tourpack, but I didn't think it would fit well on the new 09 luggage rack.  I have T-bags Dekker Supreme bag now, and it does well for me.  It looks like that new bag is the Roller Dekker without the wheels and it looks like maybe they discontinued the Roller Dekker.

If you really like the looks of these and the only drawback is the lack of a bar and shield, seems to me they sell patches that you could sew on and no one would be the wiser.  In fact, others would probably start inquiring where you bought the new HD bag!  Just an idea.

Here it is in use.

We thought it was neat cause it had lots of room plus a compartment on each end for the rain suits.

Let me know if you want it since you can now see pictures.

I bought that one.  It's really nice.

My only problem is that I also bought the leather round bag as well before this came out.  Never used it, now to sell it...

I'll probably stick with the one I have.  It works well and it's probably got more room than the new one from Harley.

 :) :) :)

Nice bag.  Saw one at my dealership.  Fits great and is easy on and off.

Here's another bag that fits behind the rider in the passenger seat.  Looks great as I take Long trips as a single.

http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/gma_product.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524442101505&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302286945&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302286945&bmUID=1243652042767&bmLocale=en_US

Has any one actually seen or used this one?

I have a very large Kuryakin bag that fits OK on the rack and OK in the passenger space.

I carry a compression bag with me...something like this:  http://www.coleman.com/coleman/ColemanCom/detail.asp?CategoryID=5400&product_id=834-213T  It's just a bag made to put a sleeping bag in.  I found one in black and cut off all of those straps that go around it.  It folds up small enough to fit into a sunglass bag, so I just toss it in the saddlebag as extra storage, should I need it.  I also carry 2 bungee cords to hold it on.  It's a very compact way of keeping an extra bag on your bike.  I've only actually used it once so far.  It got too hot to keep my leather coat and helmet on, so I just put them in the bag, put it on the passenger seat, and strapped it in place.  My bulky jacket, and helmet filled the bag almost half way, so there's a lot of space in these bags.  I think I paid about $5 or $6 for it at Walmart.  It's a pretty handy thing that takes up virtually no space at all and it's very inexpensive.

Wonder how this would work on the leather TP?

I think the best way is to actually try one on the bike.  I would assume that something like this the dealer won't mind ordering, if they don't have one in stock.  If you don't like it, they should be able to sell it pretty easily.

The Dekker works the best on the Leather TP, doesn't fit on the 09, the rack is different.

Reply #13 in this post is a pic of the Dekker Supreme on my 09.  It works perfectly.  The Dekker Supreme has removable padded sides, bottom, and top.  Remove the bottom pad and the rear pad, and the bottom and rear of the bag will conform perfectly to the 09 rack.  You can remove the rest of the pads also if you need a bit more space.  If you don't remove the 2 pads I mentioned, it won't fit well at all.  If you do remove them, the bag sits completely flat on the lower portion of the rack and then conforms to the curve and sits perfectly and securely at all points of the base of the bag.  When it's on there, it looks like it was made for that rack.

The bag itself was in a sunglass bag.  I had that and the bungee cords inside that other bag...some gals bag that got left behind.  She probably hit the door running and didn't care what she left behind.

If you are going to use the Dekker Supreme and remove the pads to strap it on there, I have another suggestion before you do it.  On the flat surfaces on the top rear of the rack (above the LED lamp), you should put some of that 3M clear protectant tape...can't think what it's called, but it will keep you from scratching the chrome on there.  This is one of those "don't ask me how I know" things.  When I get a chance, I'll take a few closeup pics to show you what I mean.  I put it on after I already saw the scratching start and the 3M tape has kept it from getting worse.  I wish I had thought of this before I used the bag the first time.

I bought the Tbag back seat bag from Zanottis for 140 plus shipping I was amazed how much I can get in it. I am liiking at the dekker supreme or perhaps the Dakota, which appears to be  little larger to have a complete set for long distance trips. I have decided that I am going to do as little free advertizing for Harley as I can so the bag having a Harley emblem on it is not an advantage(for me)

I have this bag and have made 2 trips.  works great for one person and fits nicely on the Aero TP rack.  comes with a built in rain cover.  Kind of pricey, but it gets the job done.

I'm not sure that the Dakota is really bigger.  The cu. ft. they show on their website is more for the Dakota, but if you look at the dimensions of each, it really doesn't make sense that the Dakota could be that much bigger.  It is a very nice bag though.  It was a consideration, but since it doesn't have the removable pads, it wasn't going to fit the luggage rack.  You have an 06 SEUC, and I'm not sure what rack is on there.  The new rack on the 09's isn't very big from front to back, so not just any bag will work well on it.

Okay, I took a few photos.  You may be able to see that I have some scuffing under the clear tape.  If I would have put this on before using the bag, it would be perfect.  You will need a piece on all 3 flat top sections...center, right, and left.  Actually, it looks much worse in the photos.  It's not that bad in person, but the tape would have kept it completely protected.

Dave, whats a light bulb doing on your TP

Shining like it should on a nicely waxed bike, of course.  Or perhaps it's actually the light bulb going off in my head telling me I should be on a long road trip, instead of sitting here at the computer.  I'm actually supposed to be leaving on a ride in 20 minutes, but it's too foggy here.  I could see fine to ride, but my bike is too clean to take out in the fog.  It would be covered with water before I get out of the driveway, and I spent too long shining it to destroy that on what will otherwise be a beautiful day to ride.  I guess I'll delay my gratification for a few hours and ride later today.

To all:

Great bag.  This is the exact bag I have.  Except I paid a lot more for it.

Huge with lots of storage.

Great Idea!  I'm leaving tommorrow for Oregon. So Anybody know where to buy the 3M Protective tape?

We like the bag a lot.
The top compartment is used for the rainsuits and misc.
The bottom compartment is huge and will take a lot of stuff.
On the side are little bags that have a rain cover one side and carry straps on the other side.
Plus the bottom is a somewhat rigid lower section that doesn't flop all over the rack.
Good luck!

Chip,

I hate to ask, but any chance you could get a few photos of the bag opened up.  I know there is little chance I'll see any dealers around here with one in stock to look at.  I don't want to order one in and find out I can't get any more in it than the one I already have.  I wish they would have come out with this bag 6 months ago.

Thanks Chip.  That looks like the bag they should have come out with long ago.  Now, if I can get my hands on one, I suppose I'llhave to try to get rid of the one I have. It's always something.

From where the mounting points are, I'm doubting it, but just because it doesn't look like it will work doesn't mean that someone on here won't figure out a good way to make it work.

I think the Dekker works the best on the Leather TP, I now have one I won't be needing anymore.
I have the new one coming in in a couple days.

I have the hinges, somewhere...near the exhaust header and sest out in the shop somewhere...I have been looking for a gas charged strut to put in the tour pak to get rid of the little piece of cable that barely holds several hundred dollars teetering on the edge...

Oh I need new fasteners for the hinges, thats what it was......

Why put of something today when I can put it off tomorrow too.. :drink:

I have the hinges, somewhere...near the exhaust header and sest out in the shop somewhere...I have been looking for a gas charged strut to put in the tour pak to get rid of the little piece of cable that barely holds several hundred dollars teetering on the edge...

Oh I need new fasteners for the hinges, thats what it was......

Why put of something today when I can put it off tomorrow too.. :drink:

I've found tying a knot in that cable will shorten the cable just enough to keep the lid from opening to the point of putting pressure on the hinges.  Just remember to occasionally check to make sure the screws at the ends of the cable are tight, or you'll end up with a disaster on your hands.

Best thing for that bag is strips of Velcro to secure it, you can get a roll at Lowe's 3/4" by 12 ft. maybe 5 bucks.
Cut some strips and secure the bag that way.

Those clips are horrible!

I use the supplied clips. They work just fine. PIA at first to get em adjusted. But once they're adjusted, you can just pop the bag on and off easily, without further adjustment. I like this bag. :2vrolijk_21: ;)

I like the idea, but remembered that a knot in any cable is it's weakest point. But if it shortens the cable enough to release pressure, I suppose it's irrelevant.

Scored one today from Zanotti's, $183 plus $16 shipping, Jenni was back ordered and would have had to charge me tax since i am an Ohio resident.

Yeah I used that too, I am going to bring mine to a sewing place and see if they can replace that cord with an elastic band thingy.

Like the one on the Dekker Supreme, not sure if it can be done but I am going to try it.

Sorry for digging up such an old post, but was searching for opinions on the Premium TourPack Luggage 94807-09.  Did anyone ever try this on a '06 or '07 with the leather Tourpack? Does it fit OK with the smaller rack?  I'm itching to pull the trigger, but want to make sure. TIA!

the straps can be fitted for any sort of rack, no problem there.

But as happy as we are with it, there are quality issues:

While we're on the topic of luggage, how do you like the Dicota bag? I'm looking for a new laptop bag / brief case. I was think of a Montblanc bag, but now you have me expanding my horizons. Any recommendations?

Yeah, he trying to link to a password protected host for the image, instead of simply uploading it here. As a result, everytime someone load the page and it tries to display the image, its asking each client for creditials. Simple mistake.

Mine has been very heavily used for over a year with no problems at all. Quality is perfect.

(Dicota are purely average in my experience - selling laptop cases is part of what I do.)

Hi Jim,

would you care to let us know your educated recommendations - for laptop cases I mean  ;)

Best for longevity, and offering decent protection and storage, seem to be Targus, Hans.  Of course, they have a big range, going from cheap to expensive, and to some extent you get what you pay for, though the cheap ones are not bad, either.

Cheers,

Jim

I too found this older topic. A couple of pages back I see that StrokedRider bought one for an '07 SEUC a year ago. I sent a PM and hope to hear that that bag worked great as I would be interested in one. If I hear something I'll post how it worked out.

I bought one a year ago and used it in June for a bike run.  It doesn't fist as nice is it would on the larger rack but it did work.  I played around with the straps and made them as tight as possible.  I put on around 700 miles and no problems.

Hope this helps,

Topper

Mr. Magloo, here is the bag for our bike. I have the same one but leather. You can't go wrong with this bag especially because they have the inside (waterproof) liner.

Thanks! I already have a full and half sac for my Deuce, but was looking for something a little more 'elegant'. That half sac is exactly what I used on my last trip, with the rolling luggage on the rear seat. Worked fine.

I've got he SAC bag for the contour rack for sale.  It really is a nice buy.  I wanted to put it on here before eBay.  You won't be disappointed.

RK - thanks for the offer, but like I said, I have the same bag already. The only difference is mine has the Deuce backrest pocket, that I simply don't use when I put it on the SEUC. I then just use the straps and it works great. $65 shipped is a good deal, but again, I already have one. I also have a Full SAC, which also worked on the SEUC, but it's a bit sloppy. Thanks just the same.
