2007 CVO Models?
« on: July 04, 2006, 08:00:52 PM »

Does anyone know what models Harley plans on marketing as CVO models for the 2007 model year? It appears from the history of the CVO models on Harleys website that they carry each particular model as a CVO unit for 2 years in a row.
Since the V-Rod and FatBoy were 2005 & 2006 models and the Ultra CVO was introduced in 2006, I was hoping the Ultra would be offered again in 2007 as a CVO model as I am interested in possibly purchasing one. Does anyone have an inside track on this info as my local HD dealer is mum on this issue.

ace,
Welcome to the site. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] I would think it would be safe to bet on the Screamin' Eagle Ultra to be around for '07. If you are interested in one get on some dealers list to assure you can get one.

Find out in Sturgis: http://flhrsei.org/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?num=1151450739/26#26 or after the dealer's meeting which happens sometime soon. [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Ace,

You can count on an Ultra in '07!  I had a friend who was the head of the CVO divison for sometime (he has moved to another are in the Motor Co.).  He told me to make the engineering and R & D costs worthwhile they need to make the same model for two years.  They make changes to accessories and paint but for the most part the same.

Like said before, get on your dealers list NOW!

One more thing, no reason the wait for Sturgis.  Check www.harley-davidson.com on July 14th about 1:00 pm Eastern Time.

No mystery to me.  I spent quite a few years in the Defense Industry.  There are thousands of former employees still keeping quiet about projects they worked on twenty years ago.  Some will be known about someday, some will never be made public.

I don't know about HD, but when the Gummint says "don't tell", people do it.

BLM pretty much sums it up--job security....and some fear as well.

Big time job security and I think that hits it on the head.  You let as few people in on it as possible and you treat it like the military and securty clearance is taken very seriously.  In this day of corporate availability to information, a corporation that has taken the steps to build an Iconic brand can not afford leaks.

Car companies have done it for years and so has the MoCo, it's just part of their culture and the employees take pride in it, as well they should.  Who would want to be the Grinch that stole Xmas?

Bingo.  Defense workers don't take all that stuff to the grave only because they've been told to.

I work for the government.  Believe me I understand all that...  But wouldn't ya think over one too many beers one night that someone might slip and tell a "buddy" or a neighbor something?  Or a janitor might see something he shouldn't?  Or a catering company setting up might see some paperwork left on a conference table?  8-)

Until I lived it I wondered the same thing.  I've had too many beers on several occasions with colleagues and others and somehow, something kicks in and keeps all that stuff from coming up.  (couldn't always say that about the beer ;D)

Janitors?--where I was, they had clearances as well.  But we also burned all of our papers at the end of each day anyway, so there wasn't much left lying around to be seen.  Even little slips of paper with phone numbers/messages on them.  There never would have been anything like caterers or vendors in the facilities I was in.  They don't call these places "black holes" for nothing.

It becomes a personal ownership thing--even if you're not happy with the company.  There have been leaks and will be more, some intentional, some not, but they're rare.

Porsche is similar in this regard and trust me, after you have your passport taken at the gate and sign a waiver that you won't talk about anything and then they don't let you see anything anyway, to the point that little trolls are running ahead of you covering "secret" projects with tarps etc. you get the picture that you aren't going to hear much leaked.  Anyway not anything of significance.

Elsewhere, someone posted about "many 6 speed trans and 95's being stockpiled" we can all guess what that is about but until we see it in mid July, we won't know anything for sure.

Besides, it wouldn't be the same if you could find out what the new stuff is....would it?  I don't think so anyway.

Interestingly here is an article on the Coke/Pepsi recipe theft.

A direct quote from the article which speaks to the importance of corporate security:Chief executive Neville Isdell said in a memo to employees Wednesday that the company is cooperating with federal authorities.

“Sadly, today’s arrests include an individual within our company,” Isdell wrote. “[highlight]While this breach of trust is difficult for all of us to accept, it underscores the responsibility we each have to be vigilant in protecting our trade secrets. [size=20]Information is the lifeblood of the company[/size].”[/highlight]

He said Coke will review its information protection policies, procedures and practices to make sure it safeguards intellectual property. Coke spokesman Ben Deutsch said the formula for trademark Coca-Cola was not stolen in the theft.

Being prior military and having had a secret clearance I do understand the importance of keeping secrets. Now being a public safety officer and having to go at times in cases of emergency places that aren't readily available to the public you can sometimes be subjected to things you shouldn't see. We have a few military installations that we have to provide fire protection for and when we have gone on inspections and familiarization tours I can relate to the "trolls" running around in front of you. Nothing like being announced as "Unsecured On Board" and having people stop working and covering up papers and computer screens. Makes you think if this place ever was to catch on fire you might want to surround and drown it versus going in and seeing something you shouldn't have and have to go through all the red tape.

Ok, here’s a “story” I heard from a person who worked for the Motor Co.  I don’t know if it’s true or not.  But, they have worked for there for many years and had no reason that I can think of to make it up.  They said that in the past when you first went to work you signed confidentiality agreement.  However after 5, 10 or 20 years some people seemed to forget about it.  As the story goes, someone during the preparations for the 95th Anniversary Celebration (June 98) rode a ’99 Bagger down to the site to work with some HOG volunteers.   Needless to say some of the more observant HOG members noticed the then New Twin Cam!

Now they re-sign agreements every year and District Managers and such who work out of their homes must also have their spouse sign an agreement as well.

There was a time were I knew quite a lot by now, but not anymore!  Just like everything, there’s always someone who screws it up for everyone else!

I just heard (voices in my head again; hey, at least it's a cite) that there will be four models too.  The servicar anniversary model, the nostalgia 4 speed 80 cubic inch touring model, the CVO BUR (bleed urine rigid) and something else I already forgot.

I just heard (voices in my head again; hey, at least it's a cite) that there will be four models too.  The servicar anniversary model, the nostalgia 4 speed 80 cubic inch touring model, the CVO BUR (bleed urine rigid) and something else I already forgot.

Four models eh?  Well that potential doesn't seem surprising at all.  The CVO line is a cash cow.  They know they haven't yet some critical mass of production level that will bring about diminishing returns.  So what was "special" and "limited" becomes more and more less so all the time as HD continues to suck every potential dollar from the teat.

Might not mind (so much) them building more if the ones they made already were just built right to begin  [smiley=nixweiss.gif] .

OK guys the cat is some what out of the bag. I have some very good info that starting next week some 07 models are going to be released. The word that I have gotten is that all touring models will be produced with a 95 inch motor. Still no word on the option of a 103 motor on touring models as of yet. Also you will be able to go to the dealer and ORDER SOME OPTIONS with your new bike. These orders will be on factory orders on bikes not produced at the time of the order. Looking for some more info from this source. The MOCO is still tight lipped on the CVO's

I hate that.  My 95th Anniversary shirt is totally worn out and I really liked it.  It is terrible to suffer a shirt injury and have to dup one.

Well, it kind of depends on how you define polishing?  [smiley=nixweiss.gif]  It was a great and comfortable old shirt.  Had covered many miles and many smiles.  It died suddenly but honorably though.

Some dealers are already on their way to San Diego, and the latest info from a usually well informed source is a larger engine for at least some of the CVO models. And a 2007 CVO Screamin' Eagle Road King !!!!! Yeah.

I would be reluctant to go along w/that theory. If the MoCo follows past trends I would expect to see the FLHTCUSE again for '07, and since the SERK was just produced in '02, and '03 it would be hard to believe they are ready to repeat it so soon. My educated guess that in '08 we will see a FLHXSE since this is the newest addition to the touring line, then possibly in '10 they will start repeating w/maybe the Screamin' Eagle Road Glide. Latest rumor!

Starting in 2007 you will be able to custom order your CVO bike. You will have option packages available for items such as:
*wheels
*grips/pegs/floorboards
*paint
*engine 103 or 113
*tranny 5 or 6 speed

Each CVO bikes will have a base price and then an add on for the options you choose. Downstream this will allow the MOCO to reintroduce previously done CVO models without( [smiley=confused5.gif]) infringing upon the exclusivity of the past CVO offerings.......
Eventually there will be a CVO offering each year for every model family.

New Engine, Four New Models From Harley-Davidson

More Powerful Twin Cam 96 and 6-Speed Transmission for 2007 Big Twin Models

MILWAUKEE (July 14, 2006) – Harley-Davidson will launch the Twin Cam 96, an all-new Big Twin engine, as it introduces its 2007 line of motorcycles. The Twin Cam 96 will power all models in the Harley-Davidson Dyna, Softail and Touring product families, each of which will also feature the 6-speed Cruise Drive transmission. New motorcycles for 2007 include two VRSC models, the all-new FXSTC Softail Custom, and a limited-edition model celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Sportster introduction.

“The V-Twin engine has always been the centerpiece of a Harley-Davidson motorcycle,” said Bill Davidson, Harley-Davidson Director of Motorcycle Product Development. “It’s integral not only to the performance of the motorcycle, but also to its styling, to its sound, and to the way it feels to the rider. The new Twin Cam 96 and 6-speed Cruise Drive transmission offer enhanced performance, while maintaining the traditional aesthetics of the Harley-Davidson Big Twin.”

It is the timeless blend of form and function that shapes the character of every Harley-Davidson model. It’s a philosophy that dictates that the machine should stir the soul not just through its physical performance, but also through its presence, an expression of the passion that has guided Harley-Davidson for more than a century.

Highlights of the 2007 Harley-Davidson line include:

The new Twin Cam 96 engine, paired with the 6-speed Cruise Drive transmission, delivers up to 17 percent more torque (varies by model family) than the Twin Cam 88 it replaces and incorporates a number of design changes to enhance performance and reliability. It will only be offered with Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI). The 6-speed Cruise Drive transmission features quieter helical-cut gears in ratios optimized to match the torque curve of the Twin Cam 96. A sixth gear reduces engine rpm by 11 percent at highway speeds. New mufflers have been tuned to enhance the lower sound frequencies for a more commanding exhaust tone.
The VRSC family of liquid-cooled power-cruisers features two new models. The VRSCDX Night Rod Special offers menacing, blacked-out styling. The limited-edition VRSCX features the pavement-scorching power of a big-bore Revolution V-Twin engine with drag-bike styling and graphics that pay tribute to the NHRA champion Screamin’ Eagle / Vance & Hines Pro Stock Motorcycle racing team.
The new FXSTC Softail Custom reprises the styling cues of the classic chopper, with a 200mm rear tire, king-and-queen seat, and Bobtail rear fender.
The limited-edition 50th Anniversary Sportster features special badging, a traditional peanut fuel tank, and other classic components to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1957 Sportster introduction.
The FLSTF Fat Boy is refreshed and reloaded for 2007, with new wheels and styling details, a new 200mm rear tire, and the performance of the Twin Cam 96/B engine and 6-speed Cruise Drive transmission.
The FXDC Dyna Super Glide Custom is redesigned to enhance its aesthetic appeal with additional chrome and custom features, including a new two-up, ribbed seat, Fat Bob fuel tank and a mini-pullback handlebar.
Harley-Davidson Custom Vehicle Operations (CVO) will offer four exciting models for 2007: the Screamin’ Eagle Road King, the Screamin’ Eagle Ultra Classic Electra Glide, the Screamin’ Eagle Softail Springer, and the Screamin’ Eagle Dyna. Each is powered by a new high-performance Twin Cam 110 powertrain and features new accessories and fabulous new paint schemes.
The new Harley-Davidson Smart Security System, featuring new hands-free fob and auto arming/disarming, is an available factory-installed option for all Harley-Davidson models.
Harley-Davidson will offer 17 new color combinations for 2007.

Maybe I've been a cop too long... "I'm asking that everyone hold off posting the info the second it gets released. when the info is available I'll post all official press releases in the NEWS section as well as relevant product info in each board creating new ones as necessary. "  ...That sounds like a rule to me :)  [smiley=drink.gif]

Some dealers are already on their way to San Diego, and the latest info from a usually well informed source is a larger engine for at least some of the CVO models. And a 2007 CVO Screamin' Eagle Road King !!!!! Yeah.

Got this one right. And I have bought a 2007 Screamin' Eagle Road King with 110 powertrain ;-))))). There is nothing better than one CVO, except more than one.

BLM pretty much sums it up--job security....and some fear as well.
 ;)

Nope...not sceered...maybe just enjoy watching all the TALL STORIES on here....the "RELIABLE SOURCE" stories...they're quite entertaining... ;D

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet but the information is on the HD web-site.  You have to go to the company drop down and then to NEWS for the press releases.

The notion of a larger displacement engine across the board is no great surprise.  Not only that it is seriously needed as, even with the "new" larger displacement of the base Twin Cam they are still behind the curve on what everyone else is offering.  So it's good news, but certainly nothing earth shattering.

The CVO line is... well.... at least initially it seems a bit underwhelming also.  The Ultra was a given.  The second year was a sure bet.  And a Springer?  A Springer......?  Kind of an odd man out choice it seems.  The Dyna may be a cool machine for the niche that are the Dynas.  And it was a good bet that if a fourth model got added to the CVO line it would be another touring bike as those seem to be the best sellers.

Since the Road King was relatively recent though I'm surprised another Road King is that fourth model right now.  Either they figured they just sell so many more Road Kings than Road Glides it was a no brainer from that perspective or (and this makes sense too) it didn't seem right to have two fairinged models in the CVO family at the same time.

If Touring models stay in the CVO family this would suggest that a CVO Road Glide will then follow either the end of the Ultra or the end of this Road King iteration.

Hold up, you getting this all wrong. :-[ I was referring to the fact that Roger was giving you his proxy to do this, not that you weren't wild and crazy enough to do it. [smiley=nervous.gif] Come on now why do you think I challenged Roger to this task knowing that he isn't planning on being in MV.

We just got back from lunch and making a stop at one of the local dealers.  They had a Dyna, Fatboy and Ultra Classic on the floor.  The Ultra was OD green and black......Yuk!  Maybe a lifer would like it.  The Dyna was black and aside from the 96" and six speed, I didn't see a big difference.  The Fatboy was Black with red graphics and wide tire with cool wheels.   I really like the Fatboy for the 07 line.  I would say it will be hearlded as the most changed this year.

I went to dealer yesterday w/camera in hand to take some pictures but like Crawdaddy I didn't see anything that special about the models they had on the floor (two UC, and RK) to get pictures of them.

I don't know about anybody else, but I had to pay 3 large over list to get my '06 watermelon bike.  I think Harley may have hit on the right system for the '07s with the type of cam drive system used in the Dynas for '06.  Also, finally the 6 speed tranny and the new 110" motor.  The only place they screwed up was continuing to use the smaller leather tourpack.  (I like the color matched ones much better).  I'm sure the '06 Ultras have taken quite a hit in trade-in value, so paying over MSRP was a huge mistake.   [smiley=oops.gif]  I'd be interested to know what difference people are paying to trade up to the new bike.   [smiley=confused5.gif]-Steve
