Next up was the seat. I like the covering on my seat however I didn't care for the big bulky passenger section. Since this a Screamin Eagle I wasn't willing to cut the seat up. On top of that I still needed a seat for my wife to ride on. I started looking for Badlander seats when I found another SE seat from my model year and cheap to boot. So I purchased it with the intent of cutting up some.

I pulled the staples and slid the cover up and over the foam. I than marked the foam where I wanted to cut it. I than used a die grinder to clean up my bread knife cuts.

As you can see the cover now doesn't fit like it should. The insert hangs over the edge as it is to large.

These bumps is what holds the seat off of the paint. With the seat cut it now holds the seat to high. With these removed the seat will sit better on the fender.

This is with the insert cut to size. That is new material from the drivers bucket back. My seat guy Sabatini Coach Works in Nazareth, Pa did the cleanup work (more like a save). He has done all of my bikes to date along with some car work. While it may not look like a Badlander it is far more comfortable than one.

The forward detachable points look to be partially obscured by the fender cover.  Will their be contact between the cover and the forward legs of any detachable hardware?

No there shouldn't be. ;) I may have to space each docking point out the thickness of the fender (a washer). I had considered bolting the docking hardware through the fender cover. My concern was the fiberglass and the fatigue the brackets would place on it. Time will tell what improvements I will need to make.

Looks really good, I"m looking forward to the pics of the finished product. So much for that lower license plate bracket that you fabbed up.

I tried my buddy's extended bag on the bike to see what it would look like. The key will be getting the contours in the bag extensions to flow with the fender.

Nice job on the fender and seat! I have extended bags and "street glide fender effects" to add to mine ( whenever I get some more money after doing the engine). Wish I had the talent you do to do some myself, but that won't happen in this lifetime! john

John thanks for the compliments. As for doing the work yourself, you can do it. Hey I made it all the way to the fifth grade, twice! :) I use forums like this and chopperweb for the much needed knowledge to do my own work. What I don't show everyone is the mistakes. I have far more of them than I care to admit. ;)

I'm excited about my bag extensions getting here this week. They should have shipped Friday. I'll start prepping the bags over the next few days in anticipation of the extensions. What I'm not feeling the love for is learning to ride with them on the bike! I've been told my pipes are a fraction of an inch away from the pavement now while cornering. :o That is with the shocks maxed for height.  :'(

Puzzled,

I checked out all your posts and the fender looks great.
