Rear fender cover install.
« on: August 27, 2007, 10:34:42 PM »

Removing everything from the fender.

My first attempt at clearancing a set of brackets that were sticking up.

Here I just cut every last thing off of the bracket.

Than of course when I was almost done I realized the fender cover came with hardware and new brackets!

Aligning the cover for hole placement. There is just no easy way to do this!

I'm still learnig to use the new camera! There are way to many settings...

Commiting to drilling the mounting holes.

In the end the holes ended up having to go bigger to allow movement of the cover after it was bolted down.

Cutting the hole for the taillight assembly. This won't be seen as the tailight covers it. The taillight mounting hardware will also hold the fender cover on.

Mounting the turn signals. They also will hold the fender cover on.

I didn't go with flush mount LED's as I think they suck and have NO business on the street. They are great for show bikes and look fantastic. I have a very hard time seeing them on most bikes during the day. Useless........

Trying to determine where the detachable tour pack brackets go. It sure would have been nice to have picked up a cover with these holes as an option.

Do I cut the entire area out? A couple of holes?

I tried holes but that didn't work. The brackets needed a LARGE elongated hole to go through.

I probably obsessed with these brackets more than anything. I think it is because they were at eye level on the lift!

I still need a right side bag and than I can install the bag extensions. This should complete the Fat Bagger l@@k.

I ordered paint today from Chicago HD and they kicked my order as they don't ship paint. So I ordered from Zanotti's this evening. I'll see if they ship paint or not. Chicago was $12 less however that doesn't do me any good. :'(

I have the fender cover sanded ready for primer. I'll shoot it tomorrow and get it sanded down ready for when the paint shows up.

The bags is an entirely different story as I've never worked with fiberglass before. I may have a bud mold them so I don't have to have it done twice. I'll paint them if he doesn't want to.

na, really will loook good..your bike will truly be one of a kind,,between your custom wheels and that fender....I have a nos right side bag still in the box ....did you need one?...or do you have to fabracate the existing ones too fit the new fender??

The dust..... it is everywhere. The Dremel shot that stuff all over the place. I blew it off with the air gun than a hose. had I covered it it would have just accumulated elsewhere! ;D

As for a right side bag..... I'm searching for a cheap bag to add extensions to since I have to do bodywork anyway. I didn't want to molest my stock bags. ;)

The second plate relocation held up well. So well that I'm thinking of transferring it to my Budget Build bike.

Installing a new fender on this bike also.

I was able to get the fender in color this afternoon. I'll get on it tomorrow and wet sand and buff. Of course as I was laying the last coat of clear on a couple of bugs decided to taste the clear!

I couldn't resist sitting the fender on the bike this evening when I brought it in. When I get the saddle bag extensions on I'll see if the fender needs any trimming to make everything match.

Clearance from the fender to the ground with the air dumped.

Lowest point on the fender.

An odd angle. I will square this with the exhaust pipe.

There are more cuts, notches and holes in this thing than I thought would be needed.

The clearance between the fender cover and the original fender.

The license plate bucket tucks in just below the original fender.
