I went a different direction.  The stripe on the side of our bikes extend to the saddlebag.  Emulating that stripe on the tour pak didn't make sense as it did not really flow from anywhere.  I tried to extend the lines on the fuel tank but that didn't look great.  I ended up painting it silver and putting a black wrap around light to break it up a bit.

Bottom line it's personal preference.

HD just released the LED light bar (as used on the 2010 SE Ultra tour pak) as an accessory for King tour paks.  At $480, it's not cheap, but will certainly add to the uniqueness of your TP:

Thx for the link... exactly what I had been talking to LarryB about using. Great timing. Still open to seeing other paint schemes is anyone has more ideas...

Suggestion:  go with the smoked, not red, LED light bar and smoked side marker lights.  Wrap the curved striping slightly around the sides/bottoms of the tour pak to the back of the tour pak, and flatten the curve of the striping; replicating the curve of the saddlebags on the tour pak sides detracts from the bags if repeated or simulated on the sides of the tour pak IMO.

You can buy the 2010 SE Ultra tour pak lid emblem/sticker--it's not a restricted part as they have been in the past.  Here's a picture of that emblem on my tour pak; don't recall the p/n:

The arched line is the back edge of the HD tour pak spoiler/LED.

Good luck with your project.

OK so I got my new TP in this week along with the new LED brake/running bar that HD just came out with it... went to Jim's this morning and he got me all hooked up. Sorry the px are not great quality, used my phone but this will give you an idea...

IMO the black on the silver looks very good as is... I opted not to do any paint on the sides but might add some subtle pin striping later.  Here's how it looked out of the box.

I really thought adding the smoked lens side markers would be a nice clean look... turns out they were. Nice match for the other smoked lenses.

HD has a different connector on the CVO bikes than the standard... and of course this piece come equipped with the standard connector so Jim worked his magic and made it custom.

Jim (hd-dude) rocked it on the project and is just a great guy... Gonna add some "subtle" pin striping and a few accebts on the side but the black on sliver with smoked lenses really looks sharp IMO. Thanks to Jim for another job well done!

We ran out of time for the stereo upgrade but will get that done next week.

This picture of my Tour Pak.

I have thought of going with that leather tour pak- looks real nice, and comes in cheaper that getting the electric orange one....how do you find it for storage compared to the regular king TP? The specs on it show it is not as big, cubic inch wise, and I read somewhere you can only fit one full face helmet in there (compared to 2 in the plastic king TP)....curious to know in the real world, how much less storage is it in comparison?

great job.  I did mine the same way except for wiring of the turn signals to the tour pak light.
Sometimes less is better and in this case the wrap around lights as well as the side lights breaks up the tour pak nicely.  IMO additional graphic are not needed.

This is a picture of the metal plate HD uses in the bottom of the Premium Leather (CVO Ultra) tour pak sitting in the bottom of an Ultra King tour pak

Can't provide any cubic inch data but the picture shows the difference, at least in the bottom foot print, of the two tour paks.

nice comparision, thanks...thinkin I'll go for the king- first time I used one was 2 weeks ago when we toured Arizona for a week- it was tight, but it held a good weeks worth of stuff. I wonder if your average auto body painter could paint the $500 cheaper vivid black pack electric orange....

One more!

The SE TP badge, can they be purchased?  And what is the price - VN.  I have an '01 SE RG and just purchased a Ultra TP from an '09 SE Ultra.  Gonna have sutom painted.  The TP badge would be a nice detail to add.

I'm now considering an aftermarket tour pack, but instead of painting it matching electric orange (gunslinger customs wants $500.00), I'm looking into having it covered in vinyl/leather with orange baseball style stitching.

Thinking of this tour pack-

Way too many keys for my liking.  If that's the route you're thinking of, I would visit a couple of swap meets in your area and you might be able to pick up a used H-D Tour Pac that you can have keyed to match your key.  It really doesn't matter what colour the used one is if you're going to cover in in vinyl/leather.  I like the idea of the old fashion look with the baseball stitching!  Would really be unique.  :2vrolijk_21:

Good luck with your project and please don't forget to post pics of the finished product.

How do you mean too many keys? I thought the HD tour pak has 2 latches with the one key used to lock/unlock both latches....this pack also has two latches with one key....so, I guess all you would have extra to carry around was one more small key? No biggie to me.

I will definitely post pics if that's the route I end up going. I'm calling a few custom auto upholstery shops in the Toronto area- one guy in Brampton ball parked it at around $300-350, which I could handle. I like the look of the vinyl/leather on the SERG- seems to suit it, plus painted orange (expensive) might be too much orange, and the painted vivid black somehow doesn't look right. I do like the looks of the CVO Flamed Pak was a little closer in size to the painted king tour pak, I'd be all over it.

Plus, I've ordered Mustang saddlebag lid covers, so a leather tour pak would match nicely.

Where in Ontario are you from Grizzly? Know of any good local upholster shops around these parts?

The Tour Pac pictured shows each latch having their own key (with a spare), so you get 4 keys for some strange reason, even though they claim they are keyed alike?  :nixweiss:
The H-D Tour Pacs do have 2 latches but 1 separate barrel lock.

I'm north of Toronto and a real good upholsterer is up in Sutton, called David's Upholstery.  He's located on Kennedy Road, just south of Baseline Road.  He has worked on the boats for marinas in the area for years.

Good luck with the project.

I was reading in a different section that the center lights are brighter then the outside lights. Have you noticed that? I too want to make them in to turn signals, But, they were saying the lights are not bright enough to see while driving around in the sun light.  :confused5: :nixweiss:
