JohnS_ QUESTIONS ABOUT SE EVO PERFORMANCE HEADS ON A FXR2   <~~~~CLICK, VIEW, & READ

fxr4mikey~~~~

When it comes to the "Sreamin Eagle Heads" the thread above addresses some reflections about them....

Thanks for the link to that thread, I read all of it, and some of it twice!

there is one post in particular that addresses that the "OEM valve seals" in the screamin eagle heads failed and what the person did about it.  My buddy also installed screamin eagle heads out of the box into his evo 1997 Road King a few years back with the same experience as well.....I know that Mike (REDFXR2) has installed them on his and hasn't mentioned any problems but I am not sure if he made any alterations.....we here on tech boards live in a "small" world if one person has an issue then we naturally begin to assume that every bike or part is going to have the same issue, but that is statistically impossible.....

I couldn't agree more. There's lots of examples where folks are running the same brand product, some have problems, some don't. It 'seems' that the majority do not have problems...... one can only also hope they are in that group.

Somtimes you change a burnt out light blub and when you turn on the new one it goes FLASH and that's it !!  just happens that way sometimes.

so all I am doing here is "highlighting" a couple of other's experiences that I am aware of in hopes that you or anyone reading this "THREAD" will give consideration to an alternative and perhaps not look back and wish you had known

And for that Tim, and your time of posting up and informing you we're all Thankful, I am FOR SURE !!!

.....I know my buddy would never install "Screamin Eagle Heads" without modifying the valve seals before putting them into his bike in the future....just like any of us would if we had a similar experience relating to anything with our bikes.....but 2 people's experiences does not make future experiences a reality merely a possiblity......

This is true.  My buddy up in ND bought the same heads the same week that I did back in May of this year. He installed his in May, right out of the box, and has over 10K miles on them now.  No PROBLEMS REPORTED TO DATE ...... just happens that way sometimes.

Could be too that there was a 'bad batch' of valve seals a few years ago.  I just went to the garage to examine the parts box the heads are in, the label is directly from the MOCO, it reads:

16851-98A
Kit SE Perf HDS Silver, Perf S
Fits 90-Later Evolution 1340 models, 50 state
street legal. Requires 12mm Spark Plugs

05/10/07

I know that assumptions can lead to trouble, however I'm assuming that date stamped on the label was the date they came off the mfg floor, were boxed up and shipped out.

So I further assume that the heads are only 19 months old......  they may or may not have the same valve seals that were found in SE heads 3-5 years ago.

if I were going to do the build you are doing.....I would consider making these alterations......

I have considered it, have read the posts about the bad ones, know of folks that have installed them right out of the box and are running them with no problem. After due consideration I have decided that I will install them right out of the box.  I know some will think I'm making a bad decision here, but it's mine to make and that's what I've come to.

I do, as I've said before, and am sure I will say again many times, APPRECIATE the help, opinions, and advice provided by yourself and all the other fine folks here!

I happen to be "ClassicRider2002" at HTT (Harley Tech Talk)

Regards,

Tim

I think Mikey should pick a weekend, and we can all meet at his house on Friday afternoon and make this motor build a party. :bananarock: :apple: :drink:  :huepfenjump3::cucumber: :drink: :nervous: :huepfenlol2: :mango:  :nixweiss::drink: :orange: :huepfenjump3: :drink: :drink: :pepper:

DAYUM TOOLS ARE EXPENSIVE !!!!!

I had the following tools on my list to 'buy' but after getting the prices ...... I am now on a quest to find someone that I can borrow them from .... or hang the parts on the wall just for the WOW factor in case someone who really does wrench on their bike will have something to look at   :D ............

ck these tools and the COST !

• Lifter block (Tappet guide) alignment tool HD-33443 – $33 ea (need at least 2)
• Belt tension gauge HD-35381 – $40 ea ---- I suppose there are 'other' ways to measure the tension.... homemade device should be too hard to come up with

I don't even know HOW to use these two tools, but believe that I need them for the build  :nixweiss:
• Piston pin retaining ring installer HD-34623b – $150 ea
• Piston ring compressing tool HD-96333-51C – $180 ea

I'm not spending that kind of money on ONE TIME USE tools...... has to be another way..

got any ideas or suggestions ...?
you know, something 'real' that I might be able to pursue

Thanks for you help !!
