Xtreme Machine Wheels
« on: February 18, 2007, 10:38:55 AM »

If anyone is on the hunt for new wheels let me warn you that xtreme machine has about an 8 week lead time for your wheels. I ordered mine on Dec 4 and i still haven't received them as of today. They tell me it will be worth the wait and I'm not mad because they told me they were the longest lead time but I'm getting a little anxious now. Spring is coming soon and i want to get the install going. later,Q

Do you have other tasks that are part of this big spring makeover John?  Or are the wheels it for this year?  Can't wait to see what you picked.

Wheels make such a dramatic difference in the look that's a lot though.  If you'd written elsewhere I'd forgotten, what size front and rear are you using?  Doing anything with tires too?  Like making the jump to radials?  Or staying with the known quantity there?

I'm going with 18's front and rear with 140 ME 880's. But I'm keeping the front dual brakes vs. going to one to show off the wheel. I like the idea of one so maybe down the road I may change my mind.

Have they told you why they are behind or given you an idea when you might gettem?

They also went to a new chromer. Their last chromer seemed to drag their feet way too often and delayed a lot of their orders.

When I ordered my Burnt pulley & rear Burnt wavy rotor, they told me about 4-6 weeks. I told them I needed it in 4. They said they'd try. And they where anxious to see how the "new chromer" would be on turn around time.

They ended up giving me someone else's pulley & rotor because of the delay from new chromer. I believe the new guys are out of Kentucky, their other chromer is out of Iowa

They ended up next day airing the package for me, and it was 4 weeks exactly!

It'll definitely be worth the wait Q....The final product is amazing! The way they roll the rim lip is silky smooth :2vrolijk_21:

If their not the Hotheadz or Eaglez, I'm guessing "Outburst" :confused5:

Did you end up going through tjsthumpcycle for other goodies?

Looking forward to seeing the finished product.

Take care,

Grover

Back on topic. Well one more call and yet again, no rear wheel. Try again next week, they say. Hogpro is not at fault but they have offered to ship the front then the back when it arrives. they say the same thing Grover said" they are having issues with their chromers". I ordered these suckers on Dec. 4 and was told 6 to 8 weeks. It is now over 11 weeks. I think Xtreme should hook a brother up with some swag. Whaddya all think, should I press the issue. its only fair. I have been real patient.  Terry should i talk to Phil and see what the deal is? Hopefully they just get here. Spring is coming quick.   Later,Q

Are you gettin' chrome calipers too, bro?  Can't imagine that you're not doing so.  The PM's are nice, but Phil was telling me they are about to have another, beefier caliper (bolt on) from American Suspension, chrome, and it's going to be reasonable.

I'm gettin' close to pullin' this trigger... :2vrolijk_21:

Well there are a couple of ideas I'm running through. 1 is that I may go with the single brake and then I would need to rebuild the forks to get a new right lower( And upgrade the springs to progressive) or 2 is do all the calipers later this Spring. But I did talk to Hogpro about the PM's. I want to see what everything looks like with the dual brakes right now before I make the final decision.

Those of you that are doing/thinking of this are you including chrome calipers in this upgrade? Was looking at V-Twin Motorcycle TV last night and they did an upgrade of wheels/rotors/calipers on a bike and the total package was bling, blinging. 8)

Oh yeah, Gary...the show last night was using the Performance Machine calipers...nice stuff.  Take a look at the HogPro site and you can see pics of what they offer.  That was a nice show last night...showed the HUGE difference wheels can make to a bike.

I know what you mean...lot's of chit to consider when taking a project like this on.  No doubt the single disc LOOKs cooler, but I'm unsure on my bike about the stopping power loaded down.  If you go with a 6 piston and 13" rotor, it would probably be the same net effect, with Lyndall pads...

I'm anxious to see what Phil's coming up with on this new caliper...I just don't think it's all going to look right without chrome calipers on it too..the stockers would stick out like a sore p$&*er...not talking about Frankenserk, but Wanda June....

JQ,
Your wheels are in the Extreme Machine Semi headed to Daytona for Bike Week. All of these suppliers go into the ozone on their orders a month before and after Daytona, Sturgis etc.
Grab Heather, drive down in the car, pick up the wheels, take them to Metzler's truck, have tires mounted, put wheels in car, drive home, mount on bike. You can be done with this in 48 hours. Just my $0.02

Q   If you want to go with the single front calliper and don't think you will have time to grind down the right lower well then

I have a spare set already chromed. Here is the deal....I will send you these and you send me your set when they are finished.

Might save you some time :coolblue:

Give me a couple weeks and I'll have another set of legs off that someone could grind down to add to this mix of merry-go-round parts.

Well I just got off the phone with Phil from Hogpro. He is definately a good guy. He basically said that Xtreme Machine are "primadonna's" and they say when they're done you'll get em. And they offer no swag >:(. Well I will patiently wait because I don't want to start this process over and i like the design i picked.  I will let y'all know how this soap opera ends.  A disgruntled Q.

That sucks.  Even when you're lucky enough to find one vendor who might seem like stand-up guys they're hosed but a vendor that is.... well.... normal.

Q,  I will pick  up your wheels in Daytona :D wouldn't that make you one pissed off camper if your rims were on display there :soapbox:

I hope they have the Eagle Z rim on display. Want to see it in person
Usually they give you a great price on the display rims.

Sorry to hear about the delay Q. That sucks! I'm sure it's issues stemming from the ''new chromer." Or at least they say it is.

Everything I've ever ordered from them has been on time if not a few days early. They made sure I got my rear pulley & rotor in time by sending it next day air. I always ordered my parts through Rick at X.M. He's been real honest & upfront when ordering.

It'll definitely be worth the wait. They make some pretty fabulous stuff :2vrolijk_21:

Well heres my update. I guess with my incessant calls to Hogpro and there calls to Xtreme the staff at Hogpro had enough. They in turn told the president of Xtreme to call me direct and that he should tell me whats going on. And that Hogpro is none what so ever involved with the delay. Well the prez. told me that his main chromer has moved on to a better deal with a new customer and will no longer be able to do Xtremes work anymore. So Xtreme has outsourced its plating to 2 out of state chromers that can't seem to keep up with the production of Xtreme and I will quote the prez. " All we are doing right now is relaying to our customers what my chromers are telling us." OK sounds fair, right? " But they keep not hitting the deadlines they keep telling us they will." OK. " We are almost caught up on our orders but yours happens to be one that is way behind and I apologize." So I guess I really got no answer to when I will see my wheels. It was basically a very apologetic run around circle jerk. Hogpro told me I could cancel my order but I have already waited this long so phucket it is what it is. Just beware when and if you order from Xtreme that you have enough patience to wade thru the bullchit and hope to get your wheels in 3 mos.   Later,Q

Big Bummer, Q...I know it's hard to wait after you've done all the agonizing over picking a style, then ordering, only to have something like this delay everything.  At least they were up front, even though it didn't help much to hear what they had to say.  Good to hear that Phil is taking care of you best he can though... :2vrolijk_21:  Hell, I'M anxious to see what you're getting!!

It's surprising that when chroming is as significant as it would be to their ability to provide product that some long term supply agreement wasn't in place.  Bad juju to have a sub in a position to just walk away and leave you high and dry without notice.

Q, at least wheel swaps happen quick when you get the parts in hand.  And you're still not quite to spring yet.  It'll work out.

Q....Talked to Phil today about my stuff...he's got everything but the Rotors and Pulley, but no idea about when that might come as all the reps are in Daytona this week.

Still no joy on your stuff though...I asked Phil.  I didn't even try to get out of him what you've got ordered that's so special  ;)  What a pisser, bro.  Maybe things will get back to normal after all these guys get back from Bikeweek...that's about all we can hope for at this point. :nixweiss:

At least the weather still sucks up in your area at the moment, but it's bound to improve soon and I know you want those wheels on there for that first spring ride... :2vrolijk_21:

Great news, Q!!

Now I'm playing the waiting game...everything is there, but the rotors won't be done until around April 2nd. :(  Not HogPro's fault, just the company making the stuff.  Oh well, maybe I'll have them by the time we go to Thunder Beach!!

Absolutely FALSE! NEGATIVE! Why would they build wheels and send them out without the essentials.

I ordered directly from Xtreme. No middle man to get in the way! They exceeded all my expectations. They even gave me a discount over the phone. Would do it all over again.

Mine came all ready to mount tires & mount wheels on bike. Perfect fit couldn't be happier. No extra needed. Just mount and go...

Where did that comment come from? That's B.S.

BB asked me yesterday about the bearings. i said i thought that they came from the manufacturer without bearings because I was led to beleive Hogpro mounted all the essentials to the rim. So Mark it was my fault, I misled him due to my misunderstanding. Sorry for the confusion. All I knew was when I finally get my rims they will be reay to mount and I wasn't responsible for bearing install.  Later,Q

Mine are coming from HogPro totally ready to mount on the bike...tires, rotors, pulley loctited and torqued to specs.  One reason I chose to go through HogPro was their customer service and one stop shopping.  They carry Lyndal pads, Metz tires...the whole enchilada.  I got a hefty discount off the MSRP offered by the wheel manufacturer, free shipping, free chrome hardware.  More importantly, they have been available and have returned all my phone calls every single time.

Q...I'm pretty sure yours are on the way to your house!!  Phil's just waiting on my rotors to be made and I'll be good to go!

That's B.S.

Grover,
It was a question, that's why I ended the sentence with a question mark. I was trying to figure out why anyone would use HOGPRO when all they're doing is mounting tires. I can get tires mounted for peanuts if I walk the wheels into the shop. I wasn't dissing Xtreme. I haven't done any business with them and as such don't have an opinion.

I reread my post....I guess I should have left out some of the exclamation marks. So if I sounded to everyone like I was going off, I apologize. I was just replying to your question more with  a puzzled response, not an upset response.

And I guess I read into your question more like you were saying a; "What's up with them" remark.

I've talked to HogPro a few times when I was thinking about changing wheels. They are very very helpful. Would recommend them to anyone.

The reason I ordered directly from xtreme is because they are 3 hours south of me in Illinois. I wouldn't have received the wheels in time for our MV trip if I used HogPro due to my last minute decision.

So here, Q, TC & BB have a cyber shot on me  :drink:  :2vrolijk_21:

Take care,

Grover

Ditto....

Hey B B....are we going to see new shoes on LD or Elvis?

Elvis has 80 spoke wire wheels. I am looking at having a set of spokes gold plated and clear coated for those. Any suggestions for those ? LD is the one I'm looking for new wheels for . I was gonna go with the Extreme Arson wheels, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized that the flamed wheels were Grover's look and I just wanted to let that be his thing. SO I am looking and hoping something turns up that fits with the name of the bike. I have not as yet done anything Dragon beyond the decals from Deals Gap. I figure something will turn up either on the site here or something I see in my travels. Not a big deal since I'm going to have the bike for awhile. No 08 SERG in my future unless they make one a lot different than what they've done with the past two years of SEUC's. I'd have to change too many things to get back to what I've done with LD. So anyway, if folks keep posting links to different sites for wheel makers, I'm sure sooner or later I'll find something that feels right for LD.

Hey there Big B-

This a is a free world. I have no copy right :huepfenlol2:

Don't let what I chose hold you back from doing the flame wheels....

I have the Burnt front anyway.

If you want the Arson go for it :2vrolijk_21:

I still think the spiderweb wheels would be awesome for LD.

Gold laced with chrome hoops on Elvis would be friggn' fantastic!!

Take care,

Grover

Have seen a couple of completely radical spoke jobs that have come out of that shop.  And it's not even too far from you.

I'll see what I have for photo's of the seat. I know I have some, but I don't think they show that much detail. I'll post them in the pictures thread if I have any worth posting.

Bobs wife Carla does all his computer communications. I'll let Bob know that she's been slacking :huepfenlol2: so he gets back to you. I noticed that Kenny (tailup) was on the site Friday evening. I sent him a pm but I think he was off by the time I sent it off. I was bsing with Kenny down at the International cycle show. Real nice guy, he says the same about you.

Ken's a good dude and did me right when I bought the set for Elvis. Can't say enough good about him. As to Bob, I'm thinking his connection to his work only extends to the original owner. I'm 2nd hand rose here. Thing is I've exposed his work to a huge market here in SoCal. Moost everyone who's anyone in Dago has seen the set and written down the web address. Big Daddy rode Elvis up to Venice Beach so some of the Hollyweird crowd had a chance to see Bob's work as well. I've talked Bob up bigtime, all I asked for was an estimate for my insurance on replacement value and a quote on doing a passenger backrest to match. Mrs Big B likes to ride on Elvis every so often.
