SERG Exhaust Questions
« on: June 30, 2009, 09:25:33 AM »

I have about 2500 miles on my Silver SERG and I'm growing impatient to make it sound like a Harley. Everyone keeps telling me to wait coz there should be more coming out. I'm tired of everyone asking me if I started my bike yet!! What good pals!!
I want to stay with round 4" mufflers. I've seen a few SERG's with mufflers that were less then 4" and didn't like the look.
I am still open to possibly putting a slash cut 4" on but I haven't seen any bikes with the extended bags and a slash cut. Any pics of bikes with that combo would be appreciated.
Right now I'm considering the D&D 2 into 1 with the ghost pipe or the Vance and Hines Power Dual Headers with Kuryakyn Crusher Mufflers. The only other round 4" muffler I've been able to find is the Cobra. Does anyone know of any other 4" round mufflers that are currently available?
What are your thoughts on using one manufacturers header and another manufacturers mufflers?
The HD dealership that I'm working with will only install a SERT and they say I will not require an air filter change.
I've seen many posts about using the FullSac Baffles but I want to keep my stock exhaust stock.

Keep your OEM mufflers and put the fullsacs in 06-09 CVO mufflers that can be purchased used in like new condition, your pulling the baffle anyway and the muffler bodies are identical. I put fullsacs in OEM Mufflers first, and now have them in a used set set of SE performance touring Mufflers, for a minor expenditure they look and sound as good or better then mufflers costing 3 times as much.

2BWILD – go with the D&D 2:1 with a falsey left side.

Follow the instructions on the Fullsac website (www.fullsac.com) and replace the stock baffles with the Fullsac CVO cores....I used the 2" cores.  Total cost was less than $150.00 and the sound is as good as anything else that I have heard, and for a lot less money.

i have the 09 serg and im still waiting on my pipes to be made....im going with the vance and hines true duels big shots. i know from my cuz who got them on his seuc that it raises his hp and lowers his heat. and they sound great. i like the way the pipes are the same diameter all the way to the end. and its just my opinion but i dont think a touring bike should have 2-1 . it just looks like a jap bike. im just a true duel kinda guy..

The real question is, "How wild do you want 2b?"   :huepfenlol2:   :huepfenlol2:

Seriously, this issue has been discussed at length.  You might want to read these threads:

Removing a Catalytic Converter form 09 CVO Road Glide
Installing Fullsac Baffles on 09 CVO Road Glide

$.02:  Following the instructions in those threads will get you the equivalent of a $900+ exhaust for about $140 (including the drill bit).  All you need is a decent drill and a grinder or dremel tool and a couple of hours, at most.  Some guys have cut the headers and removed the entire cat but I have not seen any indication that it is beneficial.  If you want to keep your stock exhaust, stock, you can pick up HD 96" headers and CVO mufflers, used, cheap.  Fullsac now has some slash cut tips for the SE mufflers but I have not seen any I'd prefer to the stock look.  Have to say Dartman's tips look great.  Can't say the same about the D&D set.  No disrespect to Vtyanqui but the pipes in the pic in response #4 don't fill the openings and look to small IMHO.   :nixweiss:

My understanding from Steve at fullsac there is quite a bit to be gained by removing the whole cat vice just coring it.

Im sure if you drive like Steve does there are some benefits to total removal, but at 4,000 rpms on a bike with just baffles and a tuner im pretty sure you would never notice a difference between a Cored pipe and one with the Cat removed, I gave up years ago trying to turn a Clydesdale into a Kentucky Derby Winner.

The big plus is the way the bike tunes on the Dyno, ,makes great power with NO dips...

Hi Face,

If you're going with just the fullsac baffles, no.  I "cored" the cat, installed 2" fullsacs, SE plugs and the HD Heavy breather.  That required a SERT and dyno tune.  I'm running now 112 ft lbs and 100 hp with a pretty flat chart out to about 5500 rpms.  I'd like to have more top end but that would require a cam and a complete disregard for the warranty which I am somewhat attached to given the number of warranty claims I've had already.

My Mods thus far:  SERG AND CVO: VERY GOOD TO ME! NEXT?
