This is a view of the Inlet the front of the muffler
[/Thanks so much for these excellent photos CircleRacer :2vrolijk_21: I wasn't expecting to see all those perforations on the outside of the core. Because the camera's focus is on the center baffle, it's difficult to see the perforations from within the pipe. Presumably those perforations are there and the exhaust is forced through the perforations on the inlet side ......exposed  to the muffler's acoustical packing and then back into the pipe via the perforations at the exit end of the pipe? If so, it's very similar conceptually to my 2011 core .....but a more elegant design which would be easier on the packing.b]

I have an air compressor so bought a pneumatic from Lowes. I bought the grinder bit from a local parts store, basically like the one on the far right of the kit shown above. I looked at an electric model (Dewalt I think) but it was $100.00 give or take. The pneumatic from Lowes was the better option since I have the compressor but you have to have one that can supply a lot of air or it will run constantly if it can even keep up.

so the insulation goes between screen and the wall of the pipe then you slide the core in the screen

Yup. The screen keeps the packing in place (and from being destroyed) and maintains enough distance from the core to allow the necessary muffler air volume for both performance and good sound.

See, I never think to take pictures of this stuff while I'm doing the project. Then later I'm trying to discuss things I wish I had them so I could show what it is I'm talking about.
