Totally agree, Don...I'll bet the stuff is loaded when the route is planned, particularly if it comes with the same CD as the 2820.

Like you say, I could have been happy with either unit, and they'll both do what you need them to do...one might have a slight edge, but it's not worth fretting about.  It kind of boils down to which one you like the looks of...

I'm making an assumption here and you know what they say about those...
If indeed the detail data missing in the 'Lite' versions of the basemaps are loaded from MapSource data, then that could be an advantage.  When newer versions of MapSource are made available, it would replace outdated information when uploaded to the GPS.  Since the basemaps cannot be altered, full version basemaps would have more obsolete information in them.  Just a thought...
Of course it is 3:50 in the morning and I'm so psyched about my trip I can't sleep!  So take that into consideration too!

Very interesting thread.  I am on my 4th Garmin GPS.  The first 3 while I was into sailing. Over the years I have had some minor issues that resulted in calls to  Garmin's customer support.  They are excellent. I suggest you call and confirm that the detail not available in the "Lite" version is supplied when you upload the specific route info to the Zumo.  If so, the Zumo gives you all the detail and in a motorcycle specific package.  In my mind a no brainer decision.
I currently use the old Streetpilot (about 5 years old) and have had to buy a hood that velcros on in order to see the screen in bright daylight. Doesn't look good but works.

Can anyone confirm that both the Zumo and 28xx screens are visible while wearing polarized sun glasses.

IR...the 2820 screen is visible with polarized lenses on...the Zumo has the same type display (TFT), so I would assume it is as well.

Zumo is also clearly visible with polarized glasses.  With all that has been reported on the "differences" between the 2820, and the Zumo, I think Gary has it right; it comes down to a personal preference of which looks best to you, and on your scoot.  They both work well, and the differences are minor and more than likely wouldn't be noticed once you used either one.  So....go for the one you like!! :orange:

Gary, does that cover come in blue flames :nixweiss:
Sorry Bro, that's the only flame color. The only other one they are offering now is carbon fiber. If you go to the Garmin website and look at the accessories for the Zumo you can see the carbon fiber one.

Posted before I took the time to look it up. Must have missed those flamed ones.

Might give my painter the covers and have him come up with a blue flame job :2vrolijk_21:
