Help with 103 build
« on: December 25, 2008, 08:21:28 PM »

Hi everybody, Bought a 2003 flhrsei2 about six months ago. It has pc3, Rhinehart true duals and stage 1 cleaner. I know want more power. How are the stock cvo 103 heads on this bike. Can I leave alone or should I get ported? Same with pistons. I was thinking of an andrews 26 or 37 cam. I want torque or horsepower. Would like over 100 torque and 95 HP. Looking for advice. Thanks for your help.

There are a couple companies that supply bolt in cams for the CVO 103 motors that you can install w/o doing any head work and accomplish that (and some). See the threads below...

REDSHIFT 575 CAMS & OTHER PRETTY PARTS (several dyno runs in this thread)

FCC14 Cams 103 Dyno

Freedom Cycles "Secret" FCC9 Cam Dyno (earlier version of the FCC14)

Freedom Cycles CVO 103 Cams

I have a completely stock 103 in mine.

SE air cleaner, K&N air filter, PCIIIUSB, V&H true duals with Rush
mufflers with 2.5 inch baffles.

Tuned on dyno by Rolling Thunder Dyno in Joplin MO.

102 H.P. and 107 T.Q.

Runs very good.

I have the same bike with Stage 1 A/C, PC III, and D&D slip ons. I'm currently getting 84 horses and 90 Ft/lb of torgue. Was thinking about doing the high lift cams but decided against due to reliability being my primary concern.

I've been told the main restrictor on this bike is the heads so I'm going to give the heads the works, bumping to 9.7 compression, and am switching to a 2:1 Fatcat exhaust system. This should maintain the reliability of my bike and allow it to run cooler while significantly enhancing the performance.

Planning on having the work done in about a month. Will update with the results.

Damn Banana Man thats awesome!  My SEUC Dynos at 85 HP and 90 TQ with almost the same equipment.  I thought I ran good.  My buddy has a SEUC with 10K in extra motor work and I hang right with him.  It just goes to show you.  If you're not a motorhead you better know a good tuner.  Take heed shakeman888.  Maybe a trip to Marks tuner would be a better expenditure.  Use the green for the OCD.  Come to think of it, I've never been to MO.  Maybe I should take my own advice.

The tuner Chip mentioned above has a rep for being one of the few who aren't just competent for a basic decent tune but is instead outstanding at what he does.  The tuner Mark (Banana Man) mentioned above is another of those very few.  His name is John Golden and his work is with the Power Commander.  To my mind one of the best if not the best in the country with the Power Commander.

I'm fortunate to live about a mile from John's place.  So when he's not on the road hauling the portable dyno from place to place during the rally season I have benefit of a great tuner literally minutes away.  On Monday I'll take advantage of that benefit and get the old SERG tuned with its new cams.  Can't wait...  :2vrolijk_21:

Same bike 2004 model, I'm getting 102 HP and 103 TQ with SERT, DTT Twin Scan  K&N filter, Rinehart True Duals with performance baffles and wide band sensors. Tuned by me. Had it on a dyno one time, they couldn't pull anymore. Runs good. My wife inherited this bike, i had to put a Jim's in my 09 Ultra to keep up with her. Well now it's the other way around   :P

Thanks man!!!   At first I did the SE Slip ons, the SE air cleaner and the stage 1 flash
into the ECM. Results were 86 H.P. and 93 T.Q. on a local dyno.

I wanted more so I did the V&H true duals with Rush mufflers 2.5 inch baffles and
K&N filter. That opened up the exhaust a lot more and the intake a little more.

That made the exhaust somewhat louder but deeper more like thunder.  I like it better.

Then I went to Rolling Thunder Dyno and bought a PC and dyno tune it in.
They also sell PC's if you do not have one.

He was finished in 45 minutes. Final results were 102H.P. and 107T.Q.

A gain of 16 H.P. and 14 T.Q. Needless to say I was very happy with what a
PC and a good tune did for my bike. :2vrolijk_21:

If you live close, this IS the guy to tune your bike.
