I'm happy with my choices and can say first hand they are first rate and I respect the advice I've been given by this forum. Oh, I use Glare product also. Doc

I guess I need to be a little more obvious when I'm being facetious.  ::)

I run Redline in my trans, and have done so for the past decade or so.  It looks a little weird (like Pepto Bismol), smells really really bad, and tastes absolutely terrible.  But it is a fine trans lube.  And it isn't really so slippery the plug falls out.  That only happens when some doofus in the shop forgets to tighten the plug.

Any lubricant that meets the appropriate SAE and API specifications can be used in the bikes, whether Harley approves or not.  They don't get to tell us what brand of oil we must use, thanks to various Federal laws.

Jerry, I ran into this problem too.  I've started mixing in a little Febreze at each fluid change to address the smell.  As for the taste, try a little Tabasco and some Tony Chachere Creole Seasoning.  Both Tabasco and Tony Chachere are only recommended for automotive use, but I've been using them in my CVO for years.

:2vrolijk_21:   Good idea Mark, I hadn't thought of adding condiments.  I'll let you know how it works out after the next oil change.

it's very well documented that HD had bad trans in 2010-2012, that 1 probably would not last as long as did without rad line.
look at the gears bad heat treating.

I've got several articals on oil. I won't use anything but full synthetic and will stay with what I mentioned before. There are many great oils just change it that's the key. I have not seen a guy in 4 years now, I met him every year at a rally. He had over 100,000 on his bike all with all changes done by the dealer using fossil oils. It was a 1987 Custom Softail.

I'm trying to insert an image, lets see if it goes.

Really?  I hadn't heard anything about "well documented" problems with the 10-12 trannies.  I've had all three years of those and no tranny issues whatsoever.  I run Mobil 1 V-Twin in all three holes.

That must be the problem, you've been using Mobil 1, that's why you haven't had the tranny problems!  :2vrolijk_21:

I just did a google search and only came up with the years mentioned for rear brake light issues. I read rec.Harley now and then this transmission issue is fresh news to me too.

I think I read about it on the restroom stall door somewhere outside Rachel near the A'Le'Inn.   :toilet:
