110 Rebuild Advice Please
« on: February 08, 2015, 08:00:14 PM »

09 SERG with 57,000 miles
TTS Master tune, Fullsac X pipe, 2" Fullsac muffler cores, Andrews 54 Cams, Cometic head gaskets
I don't lug the bike; never have !
Oil consumption varied over the past season; as much as 1/3 litre in 400 kilometres
3 compression tests on each cylinder
Front - 128, 130, 130
Rear, 138, 140, 140
Cylinder leakage on front cylinder - 10%
Cylinder leakage on rear cylinder - 15%
Leakage on both cylinders is through the case vent ports to the intake
Thinking I should bore it 5 or 10 thousandths and install new Pistons and rings???
How worried should I be about crank bearings???

That seems way low.  Did you have the intake held open and the ACRs shut off?

Before you choose a piston you need to know how far out they are as well as what it will take to straighten the cylinders.

With ACR on line it is not uncommon to see front and rear CCP numbers off by a large % . Goes back to how they work.. Unplug them and re run test.  I see that many new CVO 110's will use oil , have less than desirable CCP and leak down rates. Myself do not put much stock in a leak down test.. you are checking at TDC .. so until you pull push rods check top middle and bottom to get a better picture you have a tiny little piece of info

However once you take it apart you will have a better idea what is going on after you measure the cylinders..

Yes; leak down tests were with Pistons at TDC
Will redo CCP with ACR's disconnected and repost

Throttle plate wide open, air filter off, battery fully charged and charger in place, 8 complete cranks on the starter.

Russell You are fine..  8 cranks or 28 it will not change,  with or without a charger ..The engine is a air pump nothing more, spin it until the needle stops moving,  IF you want go ahead and test all the ways that you read about.. We did just that only we made a video of it for our  website.

Too many cranks is a common myth, along with the throttle plate wide open on FBW bikes .  Battery charger is another.. IT takes very little juice to spin over a engine with both plugs out.. Watching it in real time is pretty cool. WE cranked it for 30 seconds no increased in compression we then let the battery get very low guess what it still pumped the same CCP ( took longer yes but the final number was the same over and over  :)  .

With so many opinions out there stating this or that we thought it would be a useful and fun thing to do.  IT was a blast to look up all the way to do this simple test and the put it to the test..  :2vrolijk_21:

Scott

This is how it is performed, correctly.

Updated CCP tests
Throttle wide open, battery fully charged, and ACR's disconnected
Front cylinder 170
Rear cylinder 165
Repeated each 3 times with and got the same results
Significant difference from previous test with ACR's operational

Assuming the gauge is accurate you are down enough to pull it apart and begin measuring and decide a repair plan

Glad to see you got the test completed. I agree with HD time to take it apart..
