Mine went down again, but I have an old bike. You didn't say who your carrier is or where you live. All this factors in to the cost. I would check with other insurance companies.
Good luck.

If last year was your first with AARP Foremost, then I can tell you where part of the increase came from.  When you sign up the first year you get an AARP discount.  What they don't tell you up front is that the discount is only for the first year, and doesn't carry forward.  Been down that road myself.  And btw, anything associated with AARP seems to be handled the same way.

As for rates in general, I think you'll find that it often has more to do with the state you're in than anything you did personally.  I had the same experience with significant year to year increases with Progressive many years ago, and after doing a lot of digging I found that Progressive had jacked up everyone's rates in Indiana due to their claims history in that state.  Someone in another state with the same bike, same coverage, and same spotless driving and claims record I have could still get the much lower rate I used to have.  Needless to say I said goodbye to Progressive and went elsewhere.  I've developed a habit ever since to get quotes from at least three or four companies every year before I renew.  The folks that were the highest a couple years ago can become the lowest over time, I've seen it happen.  Geico used to be high in this state, Progressive the lowest.  These days it is just the opposite.

I have Dairyland insurance and my premiums have been steady for years, they actually went down a little. Pricing is of course dependent on several factors. your age, rider training??, age of the bike, the level of coverage, the deductable chosen, where you live, ect,ect.... remember the insurance companies have actuaries to figure out the most profitable way to rate/charge you.

I guess what I'm saying is that what I pay may or may not be comparable to what you'd pay for the exact same bike and coverage, but I live in CT and I pay about $850 a year per bike on the Harley's - full coverage, stated value(replacement cost, and I had to have an independent appraisal done on the Fatboy due to all the changes made to it) and accessory coverage(I forget the exact amount but I think it's $10,000) so I do pay a higher premium than some folks. I have shopped around and for the level of coverage I opted for, nobody has beaten my current costs.

It may benefit you to shop around some, Progressive, Dairyland, Foremost ect...just don't ask Allstate if you live in the northeast they wanted almost Triple what I currently pay for the same coverage!!

Had Foremost for a while and they were good, but the price was going up a little every year. Called my Allstate agent and he cut it in half!

Always question sudden spikes in insurance. When wife purchased a new to her /used vehicle and traded previous vehicle the insurance went up $900. (multi vehicle policy) I called the insurance company and asked them to explain, in detail, the sudden increase. After ten minutes on the phone the rep could not explain the increase of the $900 but the premium "suddenly" dropped by a little over $1000 without any alterations to coverage. I always try to keep a sharp eye on insurance related matters. They are legalized theft IMO.

If you have not had any changes such as tickets or claims your insurance should not go up. It should actually come down with the age of the vehicle.  if you moved that can affect price based on location.

i live in la also.  my bike insurance is paid annually, so i won't know if the rates went up or not until november.  but, my house insurance went up about 40%  :'(  checked around, and no one could come close to the new updated rate either.

Sometimes a company will raise rates for no reason on the assumption most won't question it. When our rates increased for auto & home (AAA) no claims or infractions. My wife called and asked for an explanation, they said costs increased, my wife replied inflation was 3% (at that time) and the premium increase was 15%, We'll give you 3% nothing more, they agreed and re-sent a statement.

Good for her - she was right to question the increase. My small business insurance has been creeping up 8 or 9% annually which I need to address with my agent.

I'm insuring two bikes through Progressive for $717 in Maine. No tickets/accidents on my driving record and I'm no youngster, so with a a 7/8 month riding season this appears reasonable. My CUSE8 is $597, '86 FXR is $199, with a discount for an annual payment.

As most others have stated, it depends on where you live, what coverage you may/may not have with your insurance company, driving record, type of bike, etc.  You have to shop around.  A suggestion (and you may have already done this)...check with the company where your home owners and/or other vehicles reside.  Most if not all companies offer multiple vehicle or policy discounts (life insurance can also count toward this).  With TN FB, we got a significant discount on our vehicles having our home owners with them.  Four full coverage vehicles also gives us a multiple vehicle discount.  The '12 SESG runs around $500/year full coverage w/$500 deductable.  I'm happy with that.... ;D
