biketronics ultimate amp and speaker combo
« on: February 17, 2015, 10:01:09 PM »

Has anyone done the biketronics 7.1 fairing speakers with the 6x9 titan 2s in lids with the 4180 amp.  How much of an improvement over the stock boom audio system is this?  Will be running the stock HK radio.  Just dont wanna be stuck with a $1500 disappointment.  Also how much room in the bags do the 6x9s take, still wanna be able to get the travel bags in there.

Hey, CVORG.  Biketronics makes good stuff, as good as Arc amps and Focal speakers.  I have the BT 7.1 fairing and 7.1 pod speakers, with the 4180 amp.  It is a big improvement over the stock set up.  But now, I don't think I'll ever upgrade motorcycle stereos again for a couple reasons.  First and foremost, I usually only use the stereo on the freeway, not around town.  I can't hear traffic and sirens as well with the music blaring, plus I hate listening to other people blaring their unwanted noise in town, and I don't feel like blasting my music into other people's faces.  Just a matter of respect for others.  The stock system is okay for just cruising around, unless your reason for upgrading the sound is to shake windows for attention.

If you ride mostly in town or on country roads, upgrading your sound with Biketronics parts will give you more, cleaner volume.   Whether or not that's worth $1500 or not is up to you.  But I drive 95% on freeways, and I don't believe anyone can get GOOD sound at 70+ mph and above.  Bass is not great, but again, better than stock.  Maybe the bags with 6x9s help the bass?

I can't comment on the 6x9s, except generally.  I had a '12 CVO SG, and found the bag speakers (and lower fairing speakers) to be not worth replacing.  They're just too hard to hear at freeway speeds because of their locations.  Also, there are no gain controls on the amp, so if the speakers aren't well matched, you won't be able to adjust them, except through the head unit.

Good luck with whatever you do.

I had a 12 CVO SG and replaced everything but the HU.  I got the 4180 amp and all BT speakers, to include the 6x9s in the bags.  I thought it was a really good system and the BT folks are great to deal with.  If I was doing it all over again, I would skip the bag speakers.  Couldn't really hear them that well going down the highway, they made the lids very heavy and took up extra real estate in the bags.

How did the audio on your 2014 CVO Limited compare to the Biketronics setup on your 2012?  I found the stock audio to be very good for a stock bike....heads and tails above any other factory bike.   I wanted w bit more and just finished the Stage II upgrade.

I agree with you about the stock system on the 2014 CVO.  The 2012 CVO SG was supposed to be all about sound, but the 14 CVO stock setup is much better.  The BT setup that I ended up putting on my 2012 sounded better than my 14, but I'm pretty happy with how the 2014 sounds (but that doesn't mean that I won't get the itch to mess with it a bit).  I think if I was going to change anything now, I would try the new BT Pros just in the fairing.  Only thing is that I don't know if I would have to change the amp, which I am not going to do.

I know this is not apples to apples as my SERG is an '09 and you're talking about newer touring bikes, but my stock fairing speakers were less than acceptable.

I didn't want to spend tons of money on amps and all the other stuff that goes with it, so after reading on here about J&M 7.25" speakers, I opted for a set of their 7.25" upgrade fairing speakers.  This was before they came out with their Rokker speakers.

I'll have to say that just speakers at less than $225, I have made a major improvement in my bike's sound.  I went from not being able to hear and understand the music or radio at 60 mph to being able to hear clearly anything I want to play at 80 mph.

Don't get me wrong, there are lots of great upgrades out there, but just a good set of speakers over the stock units made "enough" difference for me and that's good enough.  Again, this is just my opinion.

It's like rear shocks, a modest pair of upgrade shocks, even Progressive shocks make a big initial improvement and then it turns into cubic dollars to get incremental improvements from there up.
