2015 110 upgrade
« on: March 02, 2015, 11:45:47 AM »

I have a new 2015 CVO SG ( Sold my 09 103 Stage 4 ) I had the stage 1 done on the new SG, however I want more! What would be the best cam to put in it to increase the mid range and would increasing the throttle body size do anything for me? My local dealer suggested not to change to the thinner gasket because of reliability.

Welcome to the forum.

If you want to get out your checkbook and toss your warranty in the trash, get ahold of Steve at GMR in Ft Worth.

He will take you to a killer 113 for around 2500 bucks.

I simply put in a 57H cam and a good dyno tune with a TTS tuner (and headers/air cleaner).  103HP/109TQ and a nice mid-range torque curve.

Greg- Thanks for the reply! I did an x-pipe and a SERT. Does the 57H cam void the warranty? Are any of the SE cams similar to the 57H.

When I look at the listing for the SE585 on the Harley site, there is no statement saying the cam won't void the factory warranty.  What it does say is that the cam is street legal (with appropriate legal calibration of course), and the part itself comes with a one year warranty.  Have you found anything official from H-D that definitely says it won't affect the factory warranty?

According to my local dealer (back in 2010 when I did a stage 4 on my 09) if I use all SE parts, my warranty would not be affected. Now, I had no issues so I didn't test that advice.

According to my local dealer (back in 2010 when I did a stage 4 on my 09) if I use all SE parts, my warranty would not be affected. Now, I had no issues so I didn't test that advice.

Your dealer basically lied.  Perhaps that dealership would have covered it on their own dime when Harley wouldn't, but more likely they just intended to submit a fraudulent warranty claim if something bad happened.  The problem with that strategy, other than the fact it is legally fraud and could cause some serious issues for the dealer, is that Harley could at any time insist on them getting prior approval before making the repairs.  In that case, a rep would inspect the bike, and if the failure could be construed to be the result of the mods, the rep could refuse the claim.  If you had a failure away from home and took the bike to a different dealer, odds are they would have refused to repair it under warranty due to the mods even if Harley didn't get involved.

If someone decides to do mods to a new bike under the factory warranty, they need to be aware of the risk they are assuming.  Does this mean that everyone who does mods and has a failure will have to pay for the repairs?  No, because of that thing called luck.  Harley doesn't require every repair to be approved ahead of time, mostly because it would be cost prohibitive to have that many reps on the road all the time.  That's why I always tell people it's their bike and they can do what they want, as long as they know up front they are assuming some risk.  That's quite different than what the dealership folks imply when they are trying to sell you a bunch of high priced parts and labor.  Buyer Beware, and always question information you receive from anyone trying to sell you something.  Anything that isn't in writing and signed by the dealer principle in front of a witness is pretty much useless, btw.  He said, she said doesn't work if you have to take them to court.

In case you think I don't know what I'm talking about, I spent several years as a Zone Service Manager with a Big Three automaker back in the day.  Part of my job involved administration of warranty and policy, and I had occasion to both deny warranty coverage before the repair, and to charge the warranty claim back to the dealership when caught after the fact.

I can't really answer that as someone whom you could quote.  But in my opinion.  Yes.  Also, so does the SERT.

The SE255 that is in your bike now is a pretty good cam with a good dyno tune and proper intake and exhaust if you ride two up and like to cruise on the highway.  It starts to peter out around 4500 rpm.  But it makes great power at 2000 to 4000 rpm. Search for some dyno charts and you will find some good dyno results with the stock SE 255 cam.

Much discussed topic and I agree with the fact - it's YOU deciding how much "risk" YOU are willing to take. If you want more out of your bike, it will always involve the risk of losing your warranty! Just as the others said - plenty of options if that's the path you choose.

Simply using an aftermarket or recycled part does not void your warranty. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act makes it illegal for companies to void your warranty or deny coverage under the warranty simply because you used an aftermarket or recycled part. Still, if it turns out that the aftermarket or recycled part was itself defective or wasn't installed correctly, and it causes damage to another part that is covered under the warranty, the manufacturer or dealer has the right to deny coverage for that part and charge you for any repairs. The FTC says the manufacturer or dealer must show that the aftermarket or recycled part caused the need for repairs before denying warranty coverage.

For the amount of performance increase you get it's not worth doing the cam change. The 110 runs awesome with just exhaust and tuning. There are even preloaded hot settings so you can get pretty close without a dyno. R u gonna race your bike?
